4 Study Programs of Universitas Indonesia Achieved International Accreditation from ASIIN Germany

Four study programs of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Universitas Indonesia (FMNS UI) have achieved international accreditation from Akkreditierungsagentur fur Studiengange der Ingenieurwissenschaften, der Informatik, der Naturwissenschaften und der Mathematik (ASIIN), an independent institution based in Germany. This accreditation is a quality assurance of a degree program in the disciplines of engineering, informatics, natural sciences, and mathematics. The four study programs namely Undergraduate Program of Mathematics, Physics, Biology, and Geography are ASIIN accredited from June 14, 2022 to October 15, 2023.

ASIIN is an independent institution based in Germany for quality assurance of degree programs in the disciplines of engineering, informatics, natural sciences, and mathematics. Since 2000, it has had the right to award the accreditation seal of the German Accreditation Council, in addition to the ASIIN quality seal. ASIIN is registered with the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR) until August 31, 2026.

The accreditation plan for the four study programs began in January 2021, then in February 2021 the ASIIN faculty team and each study program team were formed, which moved quickly to work in March and made a joint Self Assessment Report (SAR). “It turns out that the four study programs are made into one cluster, so we have to make a joint SAR,” said Head of Academic Quality Assurance Unit of FMNS UI Dr. Denny R. Silaban, M. Kom. This is a challenge because the faculty team and the four study program teams must work together and coordinate intensely during a pandemic.

A virtual ASIIN visit was carried out at the end of February 2022, including through videos containing the contents of facilities and infrastructure of various laboratories in these faculties.

EQAR is included in the list of accreditation registers recognized by the Indonesian government. Dean of FMNS UI Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., said, “With the accreditation of these study programs, overall FMNS UI currently has 5 internationally accredited study programs, including the S1 Chemistry study program by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC).”

Dede said, preparations are currently underway for the online visitation of RSC international accreditation for the Chemistry Master Program which is planned to be carried out in early November 2022. In addition, three Postgraduate Programs of FMNS UI, namely Master of Physical Science, Master of Materials Science, and Master of Biology, are also in preparation for ASIIN accreditation.

The Dean added that this international accreditation achievement also proves that FMNS UI is able to improve the Main Performance Indicator point 8, namely the number of international standard study programs. He emphasized that the purpose of obtaining ASIIN accreditation is not merely to get a certificate, but as a commitment of FMNS UI in improving the quality of sustainable education, and strengthening the competitiveness of FMNS UI at the international level.

“Having received a certificate does not mean that our hard work is over, but instead we must maintain our commitment to continuously improve the quality of education,” he said. For this achievement, the dean of FMNS appreciates the staff and academic community of FMNS UI who have worked hard to complete all the long processes to obtain this accreditation. He encouraged all study programs that have received international accreditation to actively establish international cooperation in the field of education through double degree programs , in bound, out bound, and so on.
