UI Presented Famous Orchestra Group from Spain

A famous orchestra group from Spain, Siero Chamber Orchestra (OCAS), held their concert at Universitas Indonesia
(UI) on Friday, August 4 th 2017.
The group attendance was at the same time with Makara Art Centrum pre-launching event – a new building in UI
Depok Campus that is made for art and cultural event from civitas academica of UI.
The orchestra group that once became Grammy Awards 2007 nominee for orchestra music category visited
Indonesia with a project called Vinculos.
Vinculos is a project from OCAS that is aimed to promote social and culturural integration by music. Indonesia
became the first Southeast Asia country that got a chance to be visited by this group.
Performed with Unidad en la diversidad (united in diversity or bhinneka tunggal ika) theme, the group performed more
than five ensemble of Spain classical songs and Spain traditional dance, Flamenco, as well.
Moreover, the group also arranged local songs like Batak traditional song, Sinanggar Tulo, that was elaborated and
performed in orchestra format.
Previously, The Vincolus project had been performed in 12 countries like Brazil, Bolivia, Honduras, Guatemala,
United States, Morocco, Nicaragua, Greece, Italia, Algeria, and Dominican Republic.
Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia as the initiator of the event hoped that by Vincolus project, cultural
interaction between Indonesia and Spain would be more acknowledge in the world, especially in Spain and Latin
America region
With 50 personnel from various area in Spain, Vincolus was expected to be the cultural diplomacy moment to
increase tourism potency of Indonesia.
Thus, in order to reach the goal, Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia invited OCAS to several world class
tourism points in Indonesia. Among of them were Toba Lake in Sumatera and Kepulauan Seribu in Jakarta.
