Universitas Indonesia (UI) has succeeded in maintaining its “Excellent” accreditation from the National Accreditation Agency for Higher Education (BAN-PT). This accreditation is based on the Decree of the Director of BAN-PT Executive Board Number 40/SK/BAN-PT/Ak.Ppj/PT/I/2023, on Friday, 13 January 2023. This higher education accreditation ranking is valid from December 28, 2022 to December 28, 2027.
Head of the Academic Quality Assurance Unit (BPMA) at Universitas Indonesia (UI) Prof. Sri Hartati Dewi Reksodiputro, Ph.D. said, “By achieving Excellent accreditation, it means that UI has achieved the highest standards for academic quality assurance at the national level, both in terms of input, process, and output of learning. However, for UI, an excellent accreditation rating is not the final goal because to achieve the top 5 ranking in Southeast Asia, UI still needs to continue to make improvements and enhance its academic quality.”
Previously, in 2017, UI was accredited “A” based on BAN-PT Decree Number 5239/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/PT/XII/2017. Then, based on BAN-PT Regulation Number 2 of 2020 on the Conversion Supplement Instrument (ISK) and a commitment to improving academic quality assurance, UI proposed conversion from an “A” accreditation rating to an “Excellent” accreditation rating on August 2, 2022. The extension decree obtained at this time ensures that UI’s Excellent rating applies until 2027.
In the process of achieving this “Excellent” accreditation, UI has formed a team to draft ISK for Higher Education Institution Accreditation (AIPT) which has been on duty since November 2021. The ISK AIPT UI Team is chaired by Prof. Dr. Ir. Johny Wahyuadi M, DEA and has 13 members with a guiding team consisting of the Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, Vice Chancellor for Finance and Logistics, Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation, and Vice Chancellor for Human Resources and Assets.
The assessment criteria are based on ISK provisions. Things that were assessed include the ratio of tenured lecturers and the percentage of non-tenured lecturers; availability of Internal Quality Assurance Standard (SPMI) documents; effectiveness of SPMI implementation; the number of quality points that exceed the SN DIKTI decree; quality assurance mechanism towards Outcome Based Education (OBE); achievement of study program accreditation status; and the number of tenured lecturers’ scientific publications.
“In addition to setting quality standards, UI monitors the implementation of quality standards at the study program level. In addition, UI also evaluates the academic quality of the learning process through the instrument of Semester Internal Evaluation (EVISEM), Annual Internal Evaluation (EVITAH), Academic Internal Audit (AIA), Lecturer Evaluation by Students or Facilitator Evaluation by Students (EDOM/EFOM), Students Evaluation regarding Education and Research (EMPIRIS), and Evaluation of ICT-based Learning Implementation (Monev E-Learning),” said Prof. Sri Hartati.
In implementing Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), the results of the evaluation of each instrument are submitted to the faculty which later receive the assistance of BPMA. The ultimate goal is to improve quality as seen in the achievement of the number of study programs that have received the highest rating (Excellent) from BAN-PT/LAM and recognition through international accreditation, such as Association to Advance Collegiate School of Business (AACSB); Akcreditierungsagentur für Studiengänge der Ingenieurwissenschaften, der Informatik, der Naturwissenschaften und der Mathematik (ASIIN); Indonesian Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (IABEE); Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC); Association of MBA’s Accredited (AMBA), Alliance on Business Education and Scholarship for Tomorrow (ABEST21); and the Accreditation Agency in Health and Social Sciences (AHPGS).
