UI and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Establish Cooperation to Strengthen the Islamic Studies Program

Universitas Indonesia (UI) received a visit from a delegation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, at UI Rectorate Building on Thursday (16/02). The meeting discussed the exploration of potential collaboration between universities in Saudi Arabia and UI. This visit is part of the recommendations from the policy of the central government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to always strengthen relations with various universities globally; as well as part of curiosity to get to know more about UI and potential collaborations that can be conducted.

UI Secretary dr. Agustin Kusumayati, M.Sc., Ph.D., welcomed the visit, “UI has several programs related to Islamic studies, such as sharia economics and Islamic economics at FEB UI; and Islamic Law at FH UI. Based on good relations and similarities between the two countries, there are two collaborations that we are expected to carry out, which are general collaboration and collaboration related to Islamic studies that we can build on in the future,” she said.

From the previous collaboration, Saudi Arabian Higher Education Institutions and other ASEAN countries have established cooperation related to language teaching, Islamic studies, health sciences, engineering, cyber security, economics, and blue and green economics. In strengthening cooperation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and UI, this meeting will hopefully open up a wider scope of cooperation related to research groups, joint academic programs (joint degree and joint research), master’s degrees, student and academic personnel exchange mobility, scholarships, as well as internships and Indonesian language and culture short-course programs that can be carried out with universities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Ministry of Education Saudi Arabia Dr. Abdulrahman Ali M. Alamri explained, “UI as one of the best universities globally is able to be a step in opening cooperation with universities in Saudi Arabia.” said Dr. Abdulrahman Ali.
