UI Students Create Bikun Tracker, Complete with Complaint Features

Depok, August 23rd 2023. If you have the opportunity to visit Universitas Indonesia (UI), Depok Campus, West Java, then the sight that catches your eye is the purple mode of transportation. As a campus with vast area – the UI campus area in Depok reaches 320 hectares –, of course, UI Depok Campus requires various modes of transportation to mobilize academic community or UI residents quickly, precisely, cheaply, and environmentally friendly.

Mass transportation modes are expected to help reduce air pollution from carbon emissions of motorized vehicles in the UI campus area. Therefore, UI continues to promote the use of mass transportation and innovates in terms of availability and arrival time.

Previously, the UI Yellow Bus (Bikun) service was already available at UI Depok. It is an alternative that UI academics can use. Bikun UI departure starts from the UI student dormitory and is divided into two routes, which are marked red for the straight route and blue for the turning route with a split point at the Faculty of Psychology roundabout.

To find out the position of Bikun, students of the Faculty of Computer Science (Fasilkom) UI through RISTEK Fasilkom and Hive Faculty of Engineering (FT) UI collaborated to make an application called Bikun Tracker. This collaboration is in the process of application development and application coding. Bikun Tracker is an innovative solution that can help the mobility of UI academics to be more efficient and effective. This web-based application (web-app) was launched on May 22nd and can be accessed via the bikun.ac.id page .

Bikun Tracker App is equipped with friendly features to provide a comprehensive and convenient solution for users’ daily mobility. This web-app allows users to be able to access it without the need to download it on their respective devices. In addition, this web-app includes a variety of functions designed to increase time efficiency and ensure smooth transfers,” said Jeremy Alva Prathama, Director of Products RISTEK Fasilkom UI.

The main features of the Bikun Tracker Web-App are, firstly, real-time tracking of Bikun’s location , enabling users to plan trips more effectively and reduce waiting time. Second, choosing the nearest bus stop and route. Third, information on the nearest Bikun, including arrival time, duration of arrival time, Bikun number, and route information based on stops and routes that have been previously selected.

To use this application, the user enters the bikun.ui.ac.id page, then selects the current bus stop. Next, select the desired Bikun path (red or blue). After that, the user will see the position and predicted arrival time of the next Bikun at the current bus stop. Users can also see the position of Bikun on the main page.

Bikun Tracker also offers a safe and easy sexual violence reporting system. With this feature, users can report unpleasant incidents by clicking on the red funnel button on the right side of the screen in the application.

This feature also works if the user experiences or even witnessing cases of sexual violence. RISTEK manages stored data related to reporting of cases of sexual violence that have occurred. “Hopefully, the Bikun Tracker application can be a solution that helps solve the mobility problem of UI academics and make UI academics more productive in carrying out their daily lives,” said Jeremy, who is also a Fasilkom UI student.
