The University of Indonesia (UI) has signed 595 collaborations with 370 universities from 47 countries. 302 of them were the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), and the rest were Agreements of Implementation (AoI). Most universities collaborating with UI come from Asia and Europe. Besides, UI has also established teaching and research collaborations with the best universities in America, Australia, New Zealand, and Africa.
Deputy Chancellor for Human Resources and Assets, Prof. Dr. Ir. Dedi Priadi, DEA said that global collaboration with world-renowned universities shows UI’s commitment to becoming a world-class university. He said, “We want UI to be the number one university in Indonesia and able to compete at the international level. Therefore, we always strive for academic collaboration with the best universities worldwide.”
24 universities in England have collaborated with UI in 2023. The Faculty of Medicine UI has agreed to do a Joint Research and Implementation of Research with the University of Oxford, the best university in Times Higher Education (THE) WUR 2024 and third place in the QS WUR 2024. Meanwhile, the Faculty of Humanities UI has accomplished a research partnership with Cambridge University, ranked 2nd in QS WUR 2024.
Moreover, the Faculty of Engineering UI has signed an academic collaboration with the Imperial College of London, ranked sixth according to QS WUR 2024. UI has also signed a general MoU with other best universities in Europe, such as King’s College London, University of Leeds, University of Birmingham, University of Glasgow, Leiden University, University of Groningen, Lomonosov Moscow State University, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, University of Bern, and University of Bologna.
Furthermore, UI has collaborated with nine of the best universities in the United States, such as the Sponsorship Agreement with the University of California Berkeley, ranked ninth in THE WUR 2024, MoU on education, research, and community service by the Faculty of Dentistry with the University of Pennsylvania, the 12th position in QS WUR ranking 2024. Duke University, the University of Washington, and the University of California Davis also signed general MoUs.
UI students also have the opportunity to receive two undergraduate degrees from two universities through the Joint Degree program. It was done by the Faculty of Computer Science and Faculty of Medicine with the University of Melbourne, ranked 14th in QS WUR 2024. The Faculty of Administrative Sciences also provides a Dual Master’s Degree program in Public Policy and Management at the University of Melbourne. Besides, the Faculty of Economics and Business opened a Joint Degree with the University of New South Wales, ranked 19th in QS WUR 2024. There are more student exchange programs with the University of Sydney, Australian National University, and Monash University.
Besides facilitating a comprehensive study experience with different cultures, UI also offers student exchange opportunities through collaboration with leading universities in Asia, namely Tsinghua University (ranked 12th in THE WUR 2024), The University of Tokyo (ranked 28th in QS WUR 2024), Seoul National University (ranked 41st in QS WUR 2024), and Chinese University of Hong Kong (ranked 47th in QS WUR 2024.) UI also signed a General MoU with the National University of Singapore, which is ranked 8th place in QS WUR 2024.
UI continues to maintain its ranking as a leading university in Indonesia. Based on the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings (WUR) 2024, UI is in the top 15 percent of the world’s best universities, 237th position out of 1,500 institutions spread across 104 countries. With a position increasingly being considered internationally, UI continues to expand its collaboration with other leading global universities.
For this reason, by establishing various collaborations, UI strives to provide optimal educational facilities for students and opportunities for lecturers and teaching staff to improve their skills through continuous innovative research that can benefit society. Hopefully, the collaboration with international partners can improve UI’s positive reputation and Indonesia’s image at the global level.
