Petpolis: Anabul-Safe Shampoo, an Innovative Product of UI Startup

One of the featured tenants of the Universitas Indonesia (UI) Incubate 2023 Batch 2 grant program, PT Propiglow Hatta Indonesia, launched its first product, Petpolis. Petpolis is an innovative shampoo specially designed for pets such as cats, dogs, and rabbits. Using propolis extract as its base ingredient, Petpolis offers a natural anti-fungal and anti-bacterial solution.

Pet itching is often caused by the fungus malassezia globosa, which thrives in tropical climates such as Indonesia. Animal shampoos available in the market usually contain synthetic chemicals that can have adverse effects on pets in the long run. In response to this, PT Propiglow presents Petpolis with natural active ingredients that are proven effective in overcoming these problems.

Ahlan Fauzi, an alumni of Bioprocess Engineering UI class of 2015 and CEO of PT Propiglow Hatta Indonesia, stated, “Propolis, which is a natural content from bees, has antifungal properties that are tested in vitro to be able to overcome the problem of itching on animal skin, and maintain the softness of their fur. By using propolis, we are also empowering the economy of Indonesian beekeepers.” Ahlan added that this product has met the standards of product feasibility and stability, although it is still awaiting BPOM and Halal permits, so the benefits of Petpolis can currently only be felt by relatives and the UI community.

Petpolis has a number of advantages, including: containing the main ingredient propolis extract which is proven to be anti-fungal and anti-bacterial, caring for the softness of fur and preventing shedding, suitable for all skin types, non-irritating to animal skin, and has excellent product standards and stability. Petpolis is now available online at Propiglow’s official website (www.propiglowanimalcare.com) as well as on e-commerce platforms such as Shopee and Tokopedia.

Ahlan and his team’s participation in the UI Incubate 2023 program was a spark for the team because they found a program that accommodates the interests of UI students who want to be entrepreneurs. “The UI Incubate program has a clear flow from registration, acceptance, to post-program assistance. If you already have an accountable and measurable idea and a solid team, don’t hesitate to register. The benefits are numerous, ranging from self-development to extensive networking,” said Ahlan. He hopes to get further funding to develop Propiglow according to his vision and mission.

The Dean of Faculty of Engineering (FT UI), Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU, underlined the importance of start-up programs like UI Incubate in building an entrepreneurial spirit among students. “We strongly believe that entrepreneurship and innovation are the main keys to facing future challenges. UI Incubate program not only provides grants, but also comprehensive guidance and support. It helps students develop their creative ideas into real businesses that can provide solutions to various problems in society. Through our core strategy of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, we are committed to supporting and encouraging students to innovate and create positive change.”
