UI Students Win 3rd Place in National Investment Research Competition

Three students of the Vocational Education Program of Universitas Indonesia (UI), Alif Rizki Takuada and Abimael Manasye Tri from the Financial Administration and Banking study program, and Syadly Yudhistira, from the Creative Business study program, won third place in the 2024 National Investment Research Competition (NIRC). Alif and his team are members of the Capital Market Student Club (CMSC), a UI student organization that focuses on capital market studies and is under the auspices of the Indonesia Stock Exchange.

In the competition, they presented a research paper, titled “Accelerating Agricultural Food Industry Towards Integrated System,” with one of the agribusiness company issuers in Indonesia. The research included macroeconomic analysis, industry analysis, Porter’s five forces analysis, competitive advantage, financial analysis, valuation, and technical analysis of the company. Several courses given in class, such as Financial Management, Capital Market Financial Report Analysis and Securities Trading, and Technical and Fundamental Analysis, became the basis for compiling the research proposal.

The vocational education curriculum focuses on practical learning. Vocational education also prepares its students to work and benefit society, through academic activities, organizations, and community empowerment.

Alif and the team revealed that this competition is a place for self-actualization because they are very interested in the world of investment or capital markets. This competition is also an opportunity to elaborate their potential in this field to be wider. “In addition, we also relate with competent people, improve critical, analytical, creative, and innovative thinking skills, and increase knowledge of new things from exchanging ideas with other finalists,” said Alif.

This National Investment Research Competition was held from June 23 to July 19, 2024, at Yogyakarta State University (UNY) and participated by various universities in Indonesia. The competition process was carried out starting from making a research paper for stocks determined by the NIRC committee. After the selection, eight groups were selected from various universities to make a final presentation on July 17-19, 2024, at the Master of Management Building of the Faculty of Economics and Business, UNY.
