UI Students Take Home Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals at PON XXI 2024

Nadia Indah Amalia (student of the Faculty of Law -FH-) and Jeremy Dillon Latuheru (student of the Faculty of Humanities -FIB-) won medals in the Artistic Gymnastics sport, namely 2 gold medals for the Women’s Team and Women’s Individual All-Around, 1 Silver Medal for the Women’s Vault, and 1 Bronze Medal for the Women’s Bars at the XXI National Sports Week (PON) 2024 which was held in two places, Aceh and North Sumatra, on September 8-20, 2024. Jeremy won the Gold Medal in the water polo sport.

These proud achievements were appreciated by the UI Rector, Prof. Ari Kuncoro, S.E., M.A., Ph.D. “UI continues to support students to develop their potential, not only in academics, but also non-academics. Through the Student Activity Unit, UI facilitates students’ talents and interests in various fields, including sports. “The achievements of Nadia and Jeremy prove that UI students are superior talents who have the opportunity to become champions at the national level, even internationally,” said Ari.

Nadia and Jeremy competed representing DKI Jakarta. A total of 13,039 athletes from all over Indonesia competed in 65 sports with a total of 1,042 match numbers. In addition to them, there were still other UI students who competed in several sports, including Flora Lareina (Squash), Ivana Maria Treopolsa Lasama (Chess), Emirshah Aflach Fadhil (Swimming), all three from FH, Fausta Bianda from FIB (Golf), Muhammad Naabil Al Manaaf from the Faculty of Engineering (Golf), Keisha Hasna Purnama from the Faculty of Economics and Business (Basketball) and Journalist Nurhakim Baharizki from the Vocational Education Program (Roller Skates).

According to Nadia, her achievements are the fruit of her courage to try new things. Every challenge is an opportunity for her to develop and learn, so all efforts must be made with determination and consistent hard work. “I am very proud of the team and individual achievements in the 2024 PON XXI competition. This success is the result of hard work, dedication, and the best effort that I can give to my parents, coaches, friends, and Jakarta. Finally, all the efforts and training that have been done so far have yielded happy results,” said Nadia.

Before winning the 2024 PON XXI, Nadia also represented DKI Jakarta in the 2021 PON XX which was held in Papua, and managed to win 3 medals in the same sport. The three medals were the Gold Medal for the Women’s Team Artistic Gymnastics All-Around Category, the Silver Medal for the Individual Artistic Gymnastics Balance Beam Category, and the Bronze Medal for the Individual Artistic Gymnastics Bars Category.

Meanwhile, Jeremy admitted that his success in the 2024 PON XXI was achieved thanks to the intensive preparation carried out over the past seven months. He trained with high discipline, sacrificing his time and energy to win the gold medal in the Water Polo sport which was previously won by West Java.

“Our tireless efforts finally paid off when we managed to win the gold medal. I am sure that UI students have many talents. Keep up the spirit for UI friends to excel and make the name of the alma mater proud. Keep fighting for various achievements in academic and non-academic fields, because every struggle, hard work, and prayer that we do will be paid off with satisfying results,” said Jeremy.
