UI Student Innovation Wins NUS Medical Grand Challenge 2024 Award

Three collaborative innovations by students from Universitas Indonesia (UI) have won awards at the international NUS Medical Grand Challenge 2024. These innovations are the MediGuard application which won 2nd place, WiZard which won the People’s Choice Award, and CervivAI which was awarded the Social Responsibility Award. This event was attended by dozens of teams from various countries in Asia, and was organized by the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore in August 2024.

This competition brings together various multidisciplinary teams that carry solution ideas to answer global health needs. The UI student team consisting of a collaboration between the Faculty of Medicine (FK) UI and other faculties, such as Engineering, Informatics, and Business, demonstrated scientific synergy in producing innovations based on health technology.

MediGuard Innovation – 2nd Place

The MediGuard team consisting of FKUI students, namely Sydney Tjandra, Muhammad Candrika Agyawisnu Yuwono, and Shakira Amirah, created an application that aims to improve treatment compliance in patients with chronic diseases. This application is equipped with reminder features, drug interaction detection, optimal scheduling, and artificial intelligence to monitor patient compliance. “This application also integrates education, gamification, and social networking features,” said Sydney. The collaboration was carried out with Farah Dita Ashilah from the Information Systems Study Program, Faculty of Computer Science (Fasilkom) UI and Clement Darmawan from the School of Business and Management, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

WiZard Innovation – People’s Choice Award

This team consists of Omar Mukhtar Syarif, Nabiel Muhammad Haykal, Diski Saisa, and Danisha Rahma Ardyanti from FKUI who collaborated with Frizqi Ramadhandika Listanto from FMIPA Universitas Padjajaran, as well as Althaf Nafi Anwar, Umar Maulana (FT UI), and Muhammad Fadhil Risyad Lubis from Newcastle University. “WiZard also offers audit and consulting services to create a safer work environment,” said Nabiel.

CervivAI Innovation – Social Responsibility Award

The CervivAI team consisting of Mutiara Auliya Firdausy and Sandra Princessa from FKUI, together with Nur Mutmainna Rahim and Ines Siti Sarah from Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), developed an AI-based speculum to detect cervical cancer. “With the spirit of collaboration between faculties, CervivAI is here to present relevant and applicable innovations for women’s health needs,” said Mutiara.

Dean of FKUI, Prof. Dr. dr. Ari Fahrial Syam, SpPD-KGEH, MMB, FINASIM, FACP, FACG, expressed his pride in the achievements of UI students in the international arena. “With this extraordinary achievement, FKUI students have once again demonstrated their ability to innovate and collaborate across disciplines, and are ready to contribute to the world of global health,” said Prof. Ari.
