Head of the Universitas Indonesia (UI) GreenMetric, Prof. Dr. Ir. Riri Fitri Sari, M.M., M.Sc., as well as a lecturer and researcher from the Faculty of Engineering (FT) UI, received the Honorary Professor award from RUDN University, Moscow, Russia, on Saturday, February 8. The honorary title was presented directly by the Rector of RUDN University, Oleg Yastrebov, in recognition of UI GreenMetric’s extraordinary global contribution to the field of sustainability.
Through the honorary title given at the RUDN University 65th Anniversary Gala Concert at the Kremlin State Palace, Russia, Prof. Riri became the first Indonesian professor to be recognized in the list of statesmen and scientists who received awards from RUDN University. “Hopefully, more contributions can be made in the future for a world that is more technology-based and responsible for the sustainability of the earth’s environment,” said Prof. Riri.
Furthermore, she also thanked all parties for their joint achievements so that they could receive the prestigious award given by RUDN University. “This university actively initiates various cooperation and friendship programs between countries to advance civilization and the role of science in the increasingly multipolar world geopolitics,” said Prof. Riri.
In 2010, Prof. Riri and his team initiated the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking, which is a ranking of universities worldwide based on sustainability aspects, including settings and infrastructure, energy, waste management, water, transportation, and education and research. This initiative has encouraged 1,477 member universities in 95 countries to implement sustainable practices and take real action in facing climate challenges.
Meanwhile, the UI GreenMetric network has become a trigger for many national and international collaborations. These collaborations also provide opportunities for Prof. Riri to be a keynote speaker at regular meetings both domestically and abroad. In addition, in mid-2022, UI GreenMetric also innovated and adjusted indicators for sustainability for Regencies/Cities in Indonesia through UI GreenCityMetric.
Meanwhile, Prof. Riri said that this recognition further strengthens UI GreenMetric’s mission to inspire the next generation of environmentally conscious leaders and deepen global cooperation in the field of sustainability. “This title also highlights the broad impact of UI GreenMetric in promoting environmental responsibility in higher education institutions around the world,” said Prof. Riri.
The event was also attended by the Minister of Education and the Minister of Health of Russia and more than 4000 attendees at the 65th Anniversary Gala Concert of RUDN University held at the Kremlin State Palace, Russia. Prof. Riri received this prestigious title together with other prominent figures, namely Prof. Markus Tiemann (Germany), Prof. Rafael Luque (Ecuador), and Prof. Alessandra Ragusa (Italy).
