Athiya Adzra Nurul, a student of the Accounting study program of the Vocational Education Program of Universitas Indonesia (UI), also a member of the Bintang Muda Basketball club, stood out as a winning team at the 2024 Persatuan Bola Basket Seluruh Indonesia (PERBASI) (Indonesian Basketball Association) East Jakarta City Championship. Athiya and her team managed to attain the highest position in the 19-23 age category. She has been playing basketball since elementary school, and according to her, basketball is a sport that uses strategy, teamwork, and requires strong stamina.
Since junior high and high school, she has been collecting achievements from the basketball court, starting from the 1st Place Junior High School/Girls Basketball Championship Junior High School and Senior High School Level of East Jakarta Administrative City; 2nd Place Junior High School/Girls Basketball of the City Level Student Sports Week (POPKOT); 1st Place Inter-Club YBA Cup IX 2021 Championship in Cirebon; and 1st Place Inter-Club PERBASI West Jakarta Basketball Competition 2022.
Padang Wicaksono, S.E., Ph.D, Director of the Vocational Education Program, said, “The achievements Athiya gained are the result of her and her team’s hard work. The steps Athiya took are a form of students’ real contribution to heighten the name of the alma mater and the club. If she continues to pursue it, I am sure that Athiya’s steps can reach national and international levels and bring the good name of Indonesia.”
For Athiya, her participation in the basketball competition is to develop her basketball skills by facing opponents with different playstyles. “After participating in this competition, I hope that I can experience improvement in my basketball playing ability, both in the technical and mental aspects. I also hope to increase my confidence in playing basketball, especially in competitive situations, as well as develop discipline and hard work which are important values in sports,” said Athiya.
She also expressed her thanks to all parties who have supported her, including friends, family, coach, team, and the campus. “This success has motivated me to strive for excellence and give my best in the future,” said Athiya.
The Bintang Muda Basketball Club managed to win against the HPK Basketball club with a score of 51:22 in the first half. After that, they passed the qualifying round after facing the GAMA club with a score of 31:15. Next, in the final round, they faced the GAMA club again and won with a score of 44:25. Thus, Bintang Muda Basketball Club managed to become the first champion for the 19-23 age category in the 2024 PERBASI East Jakarta City Championship. The championship held at the Rawamangun and Otista sports arenas was held from May to June 2024. The championship categories consist of 14, 16, 19-23, and 24-35 age groups.
