Lieutenant Colonel Deodatus Andreas Deddy Cahyadi Sunjoyo, S.Psi., M.Psi., Ph.D.—or more popularly known as Deddy Corbuzier—was the main speaker at the National Defense Seminar held by the Creative Business Study Program for Applied Bachelor degree, Department Applied Administration and Business, Vocational Education Program Universitas Indonesia (UI). The seminar entitled “Building a Patriotic Creative Generation” was held on Wednesday (04/10), at the Vocational Program Auditorium, UI Depok Campus.
In his presentation, Deddy Corbuzier said that actions to defend the country were not only limited to military activities, but could also be developed through the creative potential of society, especially by the younger generation. Creativity is important to echo the spirit of patriotism because it can be a powerful tool to build a sense of love for the homeland. One example is the use of social media as a means of implementing forms of state defense.
“Indonesia needs a young generation who is creative and loves the country to participate in advancing the creative industry through creative works. By utilizing digital platforms, every individual has the opportunity to play an active role in defending the country. Someone can educate and improve the quality of society through creative content on social media. In fact, serious messages can be conveyed in a fun and engaging way,” said Deddy in front of hundreds of seminar participants who packed the UI Vocational Program Auditorium.
Furthermore, Deddy said that not all forms of national defense have a positive impact. Discussions about SARA (ethnicity, religion, race and intergroup) are a form of national defense which unfortunately often becomes a source of national division. He believes that SARA should be a glue that unites society, not a divider.
Apart from that, he also highlighted the many people with less wise thoughts who dare to speak out, while wise people often choose to remain silent. Therefore, he reminded the younger generation to use social media wisely by not spreading hoaxes or content that could divide society.
“Your task comes in a creative form. Doing something is easy, the important thing is to be mentally strong, have a positive culture and have the courage to speak up. Our country will be destroyed not because many stupid and evil people speak out, but because good, smart, and creative people don’t dare to speak,” concluded Deddy.
At this event, Deddy Corbuzier was accompanied by his wife, Sabrina Chairunissa, and his two children, Nada Tarina Putri and Azkanio Nikola Corbuzier. In an atmosphere full of enthusiasm, the national defense seminar which lasted for two hours was attended by 340 participants consisting of UI Vocational students and the general public.
