“AI has great potential in the world of education, from the use of AI tutors to help students understand the material, to providing academic information services. AI is also capable of performing fast big data analysis and supports Global Courses that allow students to interact across countries,” said the Deputy Minister of Communication and Informatics (Wamenkominfo) of the Republic of Indonesia, Nezar Patria, S.Fil., M.Sc., MBA., while attending the Integrity Zone (ZI) Award 2024 event at the Universitas Indonesia (UI) Balai Sidang on Thursday, August 29.
According to him, the presence of AI technology has its concerns, but on the other hand, has a positive impact on some parties, including the UI academic community. These concerns arise if AI is used without ethics, so that it can damage academic values, for example, it has the potential to increase cases of plagiarism, and violations of intellectual property rights. “However, AI also has a tremendous impact on the learning process, especially in the fields of medicine and health sciences,” said Nezar.
On the same occasion, the University Secretary of UI, dr. Agustin Kusumayati, M.Sc., Ph.D., said that UI supports the bureaucratic reform movement to create a more effective and efficient bureaucracy in accordance with needs. For example, it is by promoting and implementing the integrity zone initiative carried out by faculties, schools, and vocational education programs to improve internal and external public services.
Agustin believes that reformulating learning methods in higher education is important, including adjusting the curriculum, to be in line with technological developments. “This step is considered essential to ensure that the education provided remains relevant and can equip students with skills that are in line with future needs,” said Agustin.
