The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) through the Artificial Intelligence Center Indonesia (AiCI) implements one of the Independent Campus Independent Learning Program (MBKM) programs, namely Independent Study Certified Merdeka Campus, second batch, for students throughout Indonesia. A total of 123 students from various study program backgrounds joined the program which was officially opened by the Dean of FMIPA UI Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., online on Tuesday (15/02).
AiCI is an institution established in collaboration with FMIPA UI with venture builder UMG Idea Lab Indonesia. AiCI aims to develop human resources in the field of Artificial Intelligence in order to build the nation’s capability to welcome the industrial revolution 4.0. In this case, AiCI takes part in the onboarding Internship Program for Indonesian Artificial Intelligence (AI) Talents.
Dede Djuhana said that in the era of the industrial revolution 4.0, not only industries that require superior human resources in the fields of Artificial Intelligence or Data Science, but also research institutions and state institutions. According to him, several countries have prepared various strategies in order to have competitive digital talent. “Right now, the development of the industrial revolution 4.0 is very massive. Various activities, both research and industry, really need Data Science and AI, so if we look at this, of course Indonesia needs several strategies in order to create quality human resources in these fields, “said Dede.
FMIPA UI also takes an important role in encouraging the development of Data Scienceand AI, by collaborating with related institutions, and making the two increasingly popular fields the main focus of discussion in research groups within the FMIPA UI environment.
“Therefore, FMIPA UI collaborates with PT Artificial Intelligence Indonesia (AII) to prepare AI talents from elementary school to university level so that they have basic provisions and competencies in studying various AI applications in the future. On the other hand, FMIPA UI also provides space for the fields of Data Science and AI to develop. In the UI environment, one of the focuses of our research group is related to Big Data, Data Science, AI, from the AiCI team and the Mathematics Department,” said Dede.
Certified Independent Studies are part of the MBKM flagship program of the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendibudristek) in collaboration with professional partners. This program aims to provide opportunities for students to learn and develop themselves through activities outside of lectures, but are still recognized as part of the lectures.
On the same occasion, the Head of the Certified Independent Study and Internship Program Kemendikbudristek RI Tutus Kusuma said, “In accordance with the government’s mandate regarding digital transformation, Indonesia needs nine million digital talents in the next 15 years, so this activity is a prototypethat we hope to happen in the future. front. This means that to achieve this target, this program is no longer implemented centrally in the ministry, but there is a synergy between collaboration partners and campuses independently,” said Tutus.
Meanwhile, Director of AiCI Dr. Djati Handoko explained the series of activities that the participants had to take to get an independent campus certificate in this internshipprogram. These activities includelive sessions, workshops, presentations of specialization, expert learning, mentoring, and showcases. All students participating in the program will study technology (AI) for five months online under the guidance of the AiCI tutor team who are alumni of FMIPA UI. They will also be given material deepening by expertsfrom FMIPA UI and professionals.
As an implementation of learning, his party also facilitates the participants to carry out a final project with the collaborators by receiving direct guidance from the collaborators. This activity is scheduled to be carried out in the last two months. “In the last two months, participants will carry out activities with our collaborators, in the field of start-ups. Together with them we will continue learning by working on projects,” said Dr. Jati.
