Universitas Indonesia (UI), through the Centre for Societal and Cultural Research (PPKB) of the Faculty of Humanities (FIB) UI and the Lintas Alumni Nusantara Bersatu (LANB), held an open discussion, titled “Kota Depok: Memori Kolektif dan Heritage.” This discussion took place on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at the Auditorium of Building 1, FIB UI, Depok.
This discussion presented speakers, namely the Dean of FIB UI, also historian, Dr. Bondan Kanumoyoso; Komunitas Bambu historian, JJ Rizal; and the Head of History Division of the Cornelis Chastelein Foundation, Boy Leon and moderated by Professor of FIB UI, Prof. Zeffri Alkatiri.
Head of PPKB FIB UI, Lily Tjahjandari Ph.D., expressed her hopes that this discussion can become the first significant step in maintaining and preserving the Depok city heritage. “We have a shared responsibility to maintain and preserve history and existing culture. Through understanding and appreciation towards the collective memory and city heritage, we can build a strong and dignified identity of Depok city,” she said.
This discussion aims to dig into and understand the collective memory of the people of Depok, as well as the cultural heritage and history of this city. Through this discussion, it is hoped that the public can better understand the history of Depok, care for, and preserve the existing heritage as part of the city’s identity.
This discussion was opened to the public and can be attended by various levels of society, starting from academics, students, cultural communities, and people who are interested in the history and heritage of the city of Depok.
PPKB FIB UI, as a research and cultural institution, opens the chance of collaboration with the local community, government, and non-government organizations to protect and care for the cultural heritage, especially ones in Depok. PPKB FIB UI also commits to supporting the policies and initiatives of parties related to heritage preservation. PPKB FIB UI strives hard in its dedication to promote understanding and appreciation towards every effort to preserve the heritage of every social strata.
