FK Sets Targets for Improvement of Surgical Skills via Jakarta Annual Surgical Symposia

Depok, June 20th 2023. Practical skills in surgery for newly graduated doctors and surgeons, especially graduates of the last two years whose clinical practice activities have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, may be questioned because the experience of direct interaction with patients is different from before the pandemic. To meet this need, the Department of Clinical Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Indonesia (FKUI) once again held the 2023 Jakarta Annual Surgical Symposia (JASS) on 4–11 June 2023. This event consisted of webinars, symposiums, workshops, and had received high accreditation from the Indonesian Medical Association (Ikatan Dokter Indonesia or IDI) and the Indonesian National Nurses Association (INNA).

JASS is a scientific event aimed at general practitioners, nurses, medical specialists and surgical subspecialists who wish to update and improve their knowledge and clinical skills in the field of surgery. Apart from the symposium, JASS 2023 also holds various practical workshops that allow participants to learn from experienced surgeons and put them into practice. Participants can see demonstrations of the latest surgical techniques, practice using advanced medical equipment, and learn practical skills that can be applied in everyday practice.

The workshops consisted of circumcision, vascular access management, wound management and stoma care, vascular access techniques, laser proctology, and bowel stapler techniques. Meanwhile, there are three workshops that provide opportunities for participants to take direct action on cadaver, namely Cadaveric Workshop 1 Trans-Oral Endoscopic Thyroidectomy Video Assisted, Cadaveric Workshop 2 which focuses on actions for general practitioners, and Cadaveric Workshop 3 which specializes for specialist doctors.

FK UI Executive Secretary, Dr. dr. Yuli Budiningsih Sp.FM(K), expressed her appreciation and appreciation to the Clinical Department of Surgery FKUI for their extraordinary efforts in organizing JASS 2023. “This event is a clear proof of the commitment of the Department of Surgery FKUI in presenting a high quality platform for surgical professionals to continue learning, exchange knowledge, and collaborate in efforts to improve the quality of health services in Indonesia,” said Dr. dr. Yuli.

The main event of JAZZ was held at the Shangri-La Hotel Jakarta on 9–10 June 2023. This activity was attended by 164 participants with a series of workshops attended by 156 people and the Cadaveric Workshop that managed to attract as many as 52 participants. In addition to a series of workshops and symposiums, there were also opportunities for participants to present their scientific work in the form of posters or podium presentations. A total of 18 abstracts were presented using poster media and 10 scientific works which were presented in front of the podium.

All of these scientific papers are published in supplementation The New Ropanasuri Journal of Surgery. Head of JASS 2023, dr. Kshetra Rinaldhy, Sp.B, Subsp.Ped(K)., expressed her pride in the contribution made by leading surgeons in JASS 2023.
