FKUI Once Again Received an Award from the National Library of Indonesia Thanks to Compliance with the Handover of Printed and Recorded Works

The Medical Education Unit (MEU) of the Faculty of Medicine (FK) Universitas Indonesia (UI) won an award in the Higher Education Publisher category at the 2023 Awards Week for the Handover of Printed and Recorded Works (KCKR) held by the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia (Perpusnas RI). This award was handed over directly by the Main Expert Librarian (Pustama) of the Indonesian National Library, Dra. Woro Titi Haryanti, M.A to the Secretary of MEU FKUI dr. Erfi Prafiantini, M.Kes., in the Soekarman Auditorium, RI National Library Building, Central Jakarta. This activity is an annual event held as a form of appreciation to publishers and producers of recorded works who comply with their obligations in accordance with the provisions of the law.

MEU FKUI received this award thanks to its active participation in carrying out the mandate of Law Number 13 Year 2018 concerning the Handover of Printed and Recorded Works. In this law, it is explained that every publisher is obliged to submit two prints of each title of printed work produced to the National Library of Indonesia and the Regional Library in the relevant Provincial Capital, no later than three months after publication.

In its implementation, MEU FKUI always sends its printed works and from 2012 to 2022 MEU FKUI has published 1052 books. The types of books published include Teaching Design Books, Teaching Staff Guidebooks, Student Work Guidebooks, and Practicum Guidebooks for both FKUI and FK which are taught by FKUI and other types of books, such as FKUI curriculum books and the MEU series. Apart from being registered as a printed work, this teaching material is also being processed to register its intellectual property rights with the relevant institutions.

Dean of FKUI Prof. Dr. Dr. Ari Fahrial Syam, Sp.PD-KGEH., MMB, said that MEU has a very important role in improving the quality of education and teaching in developing various teaching materials. He also mentioned that in its journey, MEU has always collaborated with teaching staff, module teams and educational staff in managing and developing various educational products. Prof. Ari hopes that this award can be an inspiration and encouragement for all teaching staff and education staff at FKUI to continue collaborating in enriching national literature.

Meanwhile, Chair of MEU FKUI, Prof. Dr. Ardi Findyartini, Ph.D, said that this award cannot be separated from the cooperation of various parties, namely the lecturers and educational staff at MEU FKUI who are orderly regarding BRP. “I am grateful and very thankful to friends of the MEU secretariat who are orderly in administration and in implementing the Standard Operational Guidelines related to BRP. And of course, this is thanks to the cooperation of all teaching staff in the module team who update the BRP regularly. Hopefully, this achievement can provide encouragement to all teaching staff and education staff at FKUI and encourage better collaboration,” said Prof. Ardi.

At Awards Week which was held on Wednesday (6/9), the National Library of Indonesia gave six categories of awards aimed at 27 active handover implementers who had submitted their work in an orderly manner. These categories include Magazine/Bulletin Publishers, Newspaper/Tabloid Publishers, Monograph Publishers, University Publishers, Ministry/Institution Publishers, and Producers of Recorded Works (Monographs).

Previously, in 2018 MEU FKUI also received the Grey Literature award from the National Library of Indonesia for MEU FKUI’s activeness in implementing Law number 4 Year 1990 concerning the Handover of Printed and Recorded Works. Grey literature is defined as work published or produced by an institution, whether government, education, business or industrial sectors. The works published or produced are in printed or electronic format, but these works are not controlled by commercial interests and the publication activities are not the main activity of the organization.
