Depok, July 7th 2023. Through Universitas Indonesia Leadership Development Center (UI LDC), Daya Makara UI invited Prof. Bambang Permadi Seomantri Brodjonegoro, SE., M.U.P., Ph.D, Indonesia’s Minister of Research and Technology in 2019 – 2021, as the key speaker of their Leadership Development Series event with “Leading in The Digital Era” as the theme. The event was held for two days on July 5th to July 6th 2023 at Hotel ASTON Priority Simatupang Hotel & Conference Center, Jakarta. This time, the Leader Development Series was targeted to corporate and institution leaders to enrich their awareness towards digitalization, as well as providing them with broader and more comprehensive strategical perspective in hope that they would be more prepared to lead and take advantage of digital technology.
UI LDC also invited Rio Ferdinand Kiantara, Director of KORIKA (Kolaborasi Riset dan Inovasi Industri Artificial Intelligence Indonesia) and CEO of Advisia Group; Timothy Utama, Information Technology Director of Bank Mandiri; Juan Intan Kanggrawan of Jakarta Smart City and the Ministry of Culture and Education; as well as Entjik S. Djafar, President Director of DanaRupiah as speakers for the event. Each respective speaker shared their personal experience based on the background of their business field. It is hoped that through this, they would be able to provide various insights about effective leadership practices in facing the challenges in the digital era, as well as business and economic prospects through the utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve productivity.
This event was LDC’s third event and was attended by leaders from different banks, financial services institutions, to HRD consultants. Previously, LDC had successfully launched Indonesia Leadership Forum 2023 in Nusa Dua, Bali, on March 2023 and then started the Leadership Development Series in early June 2023 with “Leading at the Top” as the theme.
Prof. Bambang believed that Indonesia should make use of the concealed benefit of COVID-19 pandemic, which is the rapid transformation of technology. Throughout the pandemic, new models of business have grown, such as digital payment methods, streaming content, cloud kitchens, and AI. To set up the infrastructure for digital economy, Prof. Bambang stated that the most crucial thing to have is regulation, followed by research and innovation. Digital skill is also required through providing high quality resources in order to move the wheel of digital economy.
Furthermore, Prof. Bambang continued by saying that Indonesia has the potential to implement digital economy. Indonesia’s demographic bonus, with 204 million internet users and the massive amount of citizens with productive age, promises an acceleration of digital technology. He finished by stating, “The transformation of digital economy causes the change of consumer’s behavior in using digital payment, higher efficiency in organizational operation, and the rise of creation in jobs.”
On the other hand, Juan Intan Kanggrawan shared about the planning process towards digitalization. He showed several examples of frameworks for the development of digitalization from different companies across the world as well as different governments to act as a comparison for the participants to start designing their own. “In designing a framework for digitalization, we need to first consider several aspects in order to directly solve the problem, decide who will receive the benefits, and how the technology will be utilized,” said Juan.
Another speaker, Rio Ferdinand Kiantara, delivered the topic of “Strengthening Digital Mindset in The Age of Digital & AI” in relation to Indonesia Digital Road Map 2021-204, including the six strategies employed to reach that goal. Next, Timothy Utama, from PT Bank Mandiri Tbk. discussed the topic of “Leading for Improved Performance & Business in The Digital Era”, supported by their own experience in doing digital transformation, which resulted in the company being known by the public through Livin’ and Kopra.
Timothy, who had spent decades of working overseas and in various banks, stated that the innovation and superior services provided by Mandiri for their customers have solidified their reputation. To keep the digital transformation going, Mandiri builds hard aspects (data, system, infrastructure) and soft aspects (people and process) in the field of technology.
