FTUI Opens a New Specialization Related to the Production Process of Renewable Clean Energy for the Master’s Program

The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), opened a specialization in Sustainable Energy and Processes (EPB) in the 2023/2024 academic year. Under the auspices of the Department of Chemical Engineering (DTK) FTUI, this specialization is one of the three specializations, which is recently opened and focuses on improving the performance of policies, planning, regulation, development, exploration, and processes in the renewable energy industry in order to realize national energy resilience that is well managed.

“Energy is a basic need that has an impact on economic growth and people’s welfare. Energy is not only an important production factor for economic activity and growth but also a strategic commodity that can threaten economic activity during a crisis, especially when prices are out of control due to limited supply. Knowledge related to sustainable energy and processes is important to be spread,” said Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU., the Dean of FTUI.

Currently, the world is entering the energy transition period. This period started with the Paris Agreement on climate change to prevent global warming from increasing, followed up by statements from various countries to achieve a net-zero emission (NZE) position in 2050 which requires all countries to make an energy transition. Technological advances based on the concept of rapid sustainable processes can certainly reduce the cost of exploration and energy supply processes, especially for renewable energy.

Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering FTUI Dr. Bambang Heru Susanto, S.T., M.T. informed, “One of the strengths of the specialization on Sustainable Energy and Processes lies in its flexibility. In the future, graduates of this program can work in various fields related to design in EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction), as Process Engineers, executors and managers of energy supply (such as in the State Electric Company), environmental experts (decarbonization), government agencies (stakeholders), lecturers and researchers as well as entrepreneurs.”

With this Master’s Program of DTK FTUI specializing in Sustainable Energy and Processes (EPB), it is hoped that it will produce graduates who are educated, knowledgeable, and reliable in managing issues related to the exploration, supply, and distribution of sustainable energy through process engineering that supports the concept and process technology choices that are efficient, effective, and sustainable. In the future, EPB graduates will be able to contribute directly to increasing the availability of sustainable energy which will be reflected in the visible alignment of policies and the use of sustainable energy as well as the choice of process engineering both quantitatively and qualitatively in their workplaces.

In the 2023/2024 academic year, the Department of Chemical Engineering, the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (DTK FTUI) opened three new specializations for the Master’s Program. The three specializations are Sustainable Energy and Processes (EPB), Process Safety Management (MKP), and Process Intensification Technology (TIP). These three new specializations add the number of specializations available at DTK FTUI from previously five specializations (Gas Technology, Industrial Catalysts, Work Safety & Environmental Protection, Chemical Process & Product Design, and Gas Management) to eight specializations.

Currently, FTUI manages 12 master’s study programs, which are Multidisciplinary Master’s program in Urban Regional Planning, Multidisciplinary Master’s program in Energy Systems Engineering, Master’s program in Civil Engineering, Master’s program in Environmental Engineering, Master’s program in Mechanical Engineering, Master’s program in Electrical Engineering, Master’s program in Biomedical Technology, Master’s program in Metallurgy & Materials Engineering, Master’s program in Material Integrity Management (MIM), Master’s program in Architecture, Master’s program in Chemical Engineering, and Master’s program in Industrial Engineering.

Further information regarding master’s programs at FTUI can be seen at www.eng.ui.ac.id and SIMAK UI (https://simak.ui.ac.id). Registration can be done via the website http://penerimaan.ui.ac.id.
