Professor of the Faculty of Engineering (FT) Universitas Indonesia (UI) who is currently the Head of UI GreenMetric, Prof. Dr. Ir. Riri Fitri Sari, M.M., M.Sc., was awarded the title of Honorary Professor from the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST), Taiwan. This award was presented by the President of NPUST, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Chin-Lung Chang, at the Celebrating Centennial NPUST, International Conference on Sustainability 2024, on Friday, November 15.
The Honorary Professor was given to Prof. Riri in recognition of her outstanding contributions to global sustainability, academic collaboration, and excellent leadership. Through the UI GreenMetric program – a global university ranking system that focuses on environmental sustainability –, Prof. Riri is considered successful in inspiring institutions worldwide to adopt environmentally friendly practices and proactively address the challenges of climate change.
Prof. Riri has led initiatives that encourage universities to take preventive and adaptive actions in addressing climate change, creating a collaborative commitment to sustainability. Her vision and leadership have had a significant impact on the academic community, encouraging a future-oriented approach to sustainable campus management.
Prof. Riri said that the award as Honorary Professor at NPUST Taiwan with the implementation of technology for agriculture is a proud award. “I would like to thank the rectors who support UI GreenMetric around the world and have continuously paid attention to sustainability issues, especially Rector Prof. Chin-Lung Chang and his predecessor, Prof. Chang-Hsien Tai, at NPUST,” said Prof. Riri.
She added that this award is her second Honorary Professor, after receiving the same award from KAZNAU Kazakhstan in 2017. “This is a global recognition of the UI GreenMetric movement, with the support of more than 1250 of the most sustainable universities,” said Prof. Riri.
On the same occasion, the Honorary Professor award was also given to an NPUST alumni who founded the world’s largest antibody production company located in the USA, namely Dr. (HC) Gene Lay from BioLegend.
At the conference, Prof. Riri was also one of the main speakers with a topic titled “ICT-Driven Digital Transformation for Sustainable Campuses with UI GreenMetric.” “This topic is very relevant amidst the collective efforts of universities to lead the way towards a sustainable future,” said Prof. Riri.
In her presentation, she highlighted the transformation journey of UI GreenMetric which has evolved from a ranking system to a powerful catalyst in encouraging institutions to be environmentally responsible, while promoting digital innovation and sustainability in campus management.
