Innalillahi wa innailaihi raaji’un (Indeed, we belong to Allah, and Indeed, to Him, we shall return). We, Universitas Indonesia (UI), express our deep condolences for Prof. M. Alwi Dahlan, M.A., Ph.D., today (Wednesday, 20/3). He was a great figure in the field of communications in Indonesia.
Prof. Alwi once served as Minister of Information in the VII Development Cabinet in the era of President Soeharto. Professor of the UI Department of Communication Sciences, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UI, is worthy of the Father of Communication title because of his dedication and contribution. Prof. Alwi is also great in communication, and he has made his name legendary.
Prof. Alwi was born in Batu Sangkar, West Sumatra (15 May 1933). He studied at the Faculty of Economics (now the Faculty of Economics and Business) at Universitas Indonesia. In 1961, he continued his education at American University, Washington DC, USA. Upon returning to Indonesia, he became a teacher at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UI. Prof. Alwi served as Assistant Minister of the Environment (1979-1993).
The father of communication science closed his eyes at the age of 90. May his good deeds be accepted by Him and the entire family be given grit and patience.
