At 09.15 a.m., Tuesday (07/03), Prof. Ir. Triato Yudo Harjoko, M.Sc., Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia, who is often called Prof. Gotty, passed away at Hermina Hospital, Bekasi. Prof. Gotty died at the age of 73 and was buried at Jatiwaringin Cemetery. He is an architectural expert on housing and urban settlements at FTUI who was also actively involved in the planning and design of the UI Depok campus in the 1985-1987 period.
Several works of Prof. Gotty in the UI environment that can still be enjoyed today include Ukhuwah Islamiyah UI Mosque and the Faculty of Engineering UI campus, Depok. Apart from that, he was also involved in designing Graha Mandiri, formerly Bank Bumi Daya Plaza, which was the tallest skyscraper in Indonesia from 1983-1996 with a height of 146 meters. Prof. Gotty also shared his knowledge through several architectural books, including Tropotopia in the book Pijar Paradharma (2005), Urban Kampung: Its Genesis and Transformation into Metropolis, with particular reference to Penggilingan in Jakarta (2009), SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE: Technical, Social, Politics, Economy or Morals? (2013), and In Search for Design Ideas: Interiority (2014).

Dean of FTUI Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU expressed his condolences for the passing of Prof. Gotty. “As an expert on housing and urban settlements, one of his focuses is the less fortunate urban people who live in less decent areas. This then encouraged him to continue to develop knowledge related to the human life cycle space during his lifetime. He started as a student who had aspirations to become an educator, then pursued a career as a lecturer until he was appointed as a professor at FTUI. This is certainly not an easy journey. So much knowledge and work that he has passed on to all of us.”
Prof. Triatno Yudo Harjoko was born in Yogyakarta, on June 29, 1949. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Architecture at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia. He continued his master’s studies at University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology (UWIST), England. Prof. Triatno completed his doctoral studies at University of Canberra, Australia, and earned his professorship in 2007.
Since 1979, he served in the Department of Architecture for 41 years until he retired in 2020. While in the Department of Architecture, he devoted himself to being the Head of the Department of Architecture FTUI for the 2003 – 2007 period. Even though he was entering his retirement period in 2020, Prof. Gotty continued to actively teach as a non-permanent lecturer at the Department of Architecture FTUI until the end of his life.
Prof. Gotty’s dedication which was so high in the field of architecture, left many unforgettable memories, especially for his colleagues in the Department of Architecture FTUI. “When he served as the Head of the Department of Architecture, Prof. Gotty played a major role in the preparation of the Interior Architecture Study Program and the Architect Professional Program. Without his involvement, it is not certain that these programs will be formed and running to this day,” said Dr. Ir. Achmad Hery Fuad, M.Eng., Head of the Department of Architecture FTUI.
“Farewell, Prof. Gotty. We hope someday the students under your guidance can become as great people as Prof. Gotty,” said Dr. Ahmad.
