International Conference on Advanced Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Introduction of New Specialist Programs

Universitas Indonesia (UI) through the Faculty of Pharmacy (FF) held the 7th International Conference on Advanced Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (ICAPPS) 2024, on October 31 to November 2, 2024. This international conference was held at The Alana Hotel and Convention Center, Yogyakarta, and was attended by 250 participants from various countries, including Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, Australia, Japan, and England.

Dean of FFUI, Prof. Dr. apt. Arry Yanuar, M.Si., said, “ICAPPS is an annual event organized by FFUI. This conference brings together researchers, academics, and industry professionals to discuss the latest developments in pharmaceutical science, health innovation, and related fields.” He added that this conference aims to advance knowledge, promote cross-disciplinary collaboration, and provide a platform to showcase research that will influence the future of health.

Meanwhile, the Chair of ICAPPS 2024 who is also the Vice Dean for Resources, Ventures, and General Administration of FFUI, Dr. apt. Sutriyo, M.Si., emphasized the importance of bridging digital health technology with pharmaceutical research to improve patient welfare. Therefore, this conference discussed various important topics, such as Digital Health, Drug Discovery, Natural Products, Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and Nutraceuticals, as well as other topics.

“ICAPPS has become one of our faculty’s flagship programs, designed to support and promote the advancement of pharmaceutical research both in Indonesia and globally,” said Dr. apt. Sutriyo. He further said, with the theme “Synergies in Digital Healthcare: Bridging Pharmacy Research and Patient Wellness,” the international conference also held classes sponsored by the Asian Chemical Biology Initiative (ACBI), a scientific article writing Coaching Clinic, and various workshops aimed at enriching the skills and knowledge of the participants.

This series of activities complements the main conference and creates a more interactive and cross-disciplinary learning environment. In addition, participants are also given the opportunity to present their research through oral and poster presentations. Then, several selected papers will be published in international journals indexed by Scopus.

On the same occasion, FFUI also announced two new specializations in the Master of Pharmaceutical Science Program, namely Pharmaceutical Industry and Pharmaceutical Regulatory Science. These specializations are designed to meet the demands of the pharmaceutical industry and the ever-evolving regulatory landscape, both at the national and international levels. The Pharmaceutical Industry specialization will equip students with specialized knowledge and skills in the drug production and management process, while the Pharmaceutical Regulation specialization provides an in-depth understanding of policies, standards, and regulations in the pharmaceutical field.

“Through ICAPPS 2024, FFUI hopes to expand its network and collaboration in the field of pharmaceutical sciences and introduce this new specialization to the academic and professional community, with the aim of producing graduates who are ready to contribute to the pharmaceutical industry and regulatory sector,” said Prof. Arry.

In his welcoming speech, the Head of the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM), dr. Taruna Ikrar, M.Biomed., Ph.D., expressed his deep appreciation to FFUI for organizing this annual event. “I would like to thank the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Indonesia for its initiative to hold this important annual event, which serves as a forum for pharmacists to share knowledge and encourage innovation in pharmaceutical product development in Indonesia,” said Dr. Taruna.

He further said that currently digitalization is no longer just an option, but a necessity to improve patient safety and public welfare. In achieving this goal, strong synergy is needed in the digital health ecosystem, combining stakeholders from various sectors to drive changes that have a real impact.
