Depok, June 9th 2023. Still in the series of activities “Sedekah Hutan 2023”, Makara Art Center (MAC) UI and the Bakul Budaya Community collaborated with storyteller Uncle Gery and painter Kak Romie to hold a storytelling and coloring event together with the theme “Forest”, yesterday (Wednesday, 08/06/2023).
Hundreds of children from kindergartens in the city of Depok took part in activities aimed at training sensitivity to the environment. Storytelling activities were packed with interesting storylines and interspersed with singing along, making children very enthusiastic about listening to and understanding the contents of the story. The Chairperson of Bakul Budaya, Dewi Fajar Marhaeni hoped that the children who take part in this event will develop a sense of care for their environment, so that when they grow up they can also play a role in caring for the forest and the environment around them.
After listening to the story, the event continued by inviting the children to draw leaves together. “Later on, the picture will be cut out and pasted onto a tree replica made of cardboard created by the Bumi Kardus Community,” said Romie while accompanying the children to paint.
The Bumi Kardus Community was born out of an awareness of the recycling concept which turns out to be beneficial for life. This community recreates used cardboard into a variety of valuable items, such as accessories, toys, and stage decorations.
Head of Makara Art Center UI, Dr. Ngatawi Al Zastrouw, hoped that there will be future generations of young Indonesians who are at the forefront of nature conservation. “Hopefully this activity will also encourage children to utilize unused items into items of use value or can even be sold and make money,” said Dr. Ngatawi.
