Depok, June 16th 2023. Universitas Indonesia (UI) is one of the universities participating in the RI–Singapore University Network (RI–SING UN) collaboration. In this collaboration, UI is working with six universities in Singapore, namely the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore Management University (SMU), Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), and the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT).
There are four activities offered by these six Singapore universities. These activities include Research, Postgraduate Programmes, Executive Education Programmes, and Student Mobility Programmes. The finalization of the cooperation and the real implementation plan of this activity were then discussed at a meeting held on 12th-14th of June 2023, in Nusa Dua, Bali. The meeting was attended by Plt. Director General of Higher Education, Research and Technology. Prof. Ir. Nizam, M.Sc., DIC, Ph.D., IPU, Asean Eng.; UI Rector, Prof. Ari Kuncoro, S.E., M.A., Ph.D.; Vice Rector for Research and Innovation, drg. Nurtami, Ph.D., Sp,OF(K); as well as representatives from Singapore universities.
Regarding this collaboration, Prof. Ari said that UI has recently collaborated with universities, from local universities to the United States. The forms of cooperation range from student/lecturer exchanges, research, to innovation at UI. However, he emphasized that what is even more important is cooperating with university partners in the Southeast Asian region, such as Singapore, in advancing the world of education.
Apart from discussing forms of cooperation, a Matchmaking Session was held during the occasion between UI and the six universities. From the results of this matchmaking, UI and NUS agreed to work together in four areas, namely Research and Innovation, Postgraduate Program, Executive Education Program, and Student Mobility Program. The programs that will be implemented will be the development of the Cross Business/Startup Incubation Program, Dual Degree, NUS Fellows Program (SEA), Southeast Asia Funding Initiative, NUS Overseas Colleges, Internships Program, and Enterprise Summer Program in Entrepreneurship.
For UI-SIT, the two agreed to collaborate in two areas, namely Research and Innovation in the form of the UI Bilateral Strategic Alliance (UI BISA) and the Student Mobility Program in the form of Social Innovation Projects (SIP). As for UI–SUSS, the areas of cooperation that will be carried out include Research and Innovation, Postgraduate Programs, Executive Education Programs, and Student Mobility Programs. The activities that will be carried out in this area are UI BISA, Cross Business/Startup Incubation Program, Dual Degree, Staff Exchange, and Student Exchange.
Meanwhile, the UI-SUTD collaboration will be carried out in three areas, namely Research and Innovation in the form of UI BISA, Postgraduate Program in the form of a Dual Degree, and Student Mobility Program which is implemented in the Internship in Research program. In the collaboration between UI and SMU, the collaboration will also cover three areas, namely Research and Innovation in the form of UI BISA and the Cross Business/Startup Incubation Program, the Postgraduate Program in the form of a Dual Degree, and the Student Mobility Program which includes the Short-term Program, Global Summer Program, as well as the I&E Focused Program.
Finally, for the UI–NTU collaboration, the matchmaking that was carried out resulted in cooperation agreements in two areas, namely Research and Innovation and the Postgraduate Program. Research and Innovation will be carried out in three activities, namely the Joint Research for Sustainability and Innovation (INSPIRASI), UI BISA, and the Cross Business/Startup Incubation Program. As for the Postgraduate Program, this will be implemented in the Dual Degree program.
The RI–SING UN collaboration was made based on a Government to Government (G to G) agreement between the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia and the Singapore Ministry of Education. Apart from UI, this collaboration is also done with four other higher education institutions, namely Universitas Gadjah Mada, Bandung Institute of Technology, Bogor Agricultural Institute, and Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology.
