Presidency Minister of Timor Leste’s Council of Ministers Gives Scientific Orations to UI Vocational New Students

Minister of the Presidency of Timor Leste’s Council of Ministers, Fidelis Manuel Leite Magalhães.

After the visit of the President of the Democratic Republic of Timor Leste, José Ramos-Horta to the Universitas Indonesia (UI) last July, now the Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers of Timor Leste, Fidelis Manuel Leite Magalhães paid a visit to give scientific oration in front of new students of the UI Vocational Education Program. In his scientific oration, he conveyed the importance of applied education which is one of the keys to success for young people to create great changes for the nation. “Through collaboration between Indonesia and Timor Leste, we can share knowledge, especially in the digital era. The role of digital media is very important for democracy and development for each country,” said Fidelis.

On the same occasion, he also gave a scientific oration. He said the rapid development of technology can be utilized to create an adaptive and intelligent society, especially in the management and dissemination of information.

“The most familiar example for us is the use of smartphones. As smartphone users, we need to be smarter about how we use them. It is our duty to encourage people to use smartphones wisely, so that the application to realize and educate the nation can happen,” Merício said.

He added, “We invite the leadership and students of Vocational School UI to visit Timor Leste. We also open opportunities for students who want to do internships and study in Timor Leste. Thus, cooperation and collaboration between Indonesia and Timor Leste can continue to be established.”.

Director of the UI Vocational Education Program, Padang Wicaksono, S.E., Ph.D, in his welcoming speech said that strengthening cooperation between Indonesia and Timor Leste can be realized through various fields, one of which is education.

“Bilateral relations need to be built and we need to support each other. We hope to receive students from Timor Leste, conduct cooperation, research, and community service in order to improve the welfare and knowledge of both countries,” said Padang on Friday (19/08).

On this occasion, Padang also officially welcomed the new batch of 2022 students who attended face-to-face. “It’s great to feel the euphoria and enthusiasm of the students to pursue education offline again. I hope that the students can enjoy life on campus and continue to make the UI alma mater proud,” Padang said.

This activity is a series of Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) 2022 events held in a hybrid manner at the UI Vocational Education Program Auditorium, UI Depok Campus. The event was broadcasted live through the UI Vocational YouTube account.
