Alya Putri Ramadanty, a Financial Administration and Banking student from the Vocational Education Program at Universitas Indonesia (UI), won a Verbal Commendation award at the 15th Asia Youth International Model United Nations (AYIMUN) event held in Bangkok, Thailand, on November 1-4, 2024. In the international competition, Alya promoted sustainable agriculture as a solution to address the impacts of climate change, which has shaken not only the food system but also the economic stability of rural communities. Alya managed to convey her ideas effectively, thus receiving appreciation from other delegates.
The award received by Alya shows her significant contribution to providing concrete solutions in international forums. To participate, Alya prepared a position paper as part of an internal selection after receiving information about AYIMUN. This process provided many valuable lessons, including in analyzing global issues, compiling relevant arguments, and developing communication, negotiation, and leadership skills that are very useful in her academic and professional contexts.
Alya also highlighted the importance of a sustainable agricultural strategy for Indonesia, an agricultural country that relies on the agricultural sector. She believes that environmentally friendly technologies, crop diversification, and efficient agricultural practices can create a more resilient agricultural system in the face of climate change. The experience at AYIMUN allowed Alya to discuss with young delegates from various countries, which enriched her views on global solutions. The Director of the UI Vocational Education Program, Padang Wicaksono, appreciated Alya’s achievement as proof that Indonesian students can make a positive impact on global issues.
