Sabrina Bensie Aricis, a student of the Creative Advertising study program of the Vocational Education Program of Universitas Indonesia, wins the None Jakarta Barat 2024 Honorary Award and Best Talent at the Abang None Jakarta Barat 2024 contest. Almost 400 participants participated in the audition for this contest, and Sabrina, along with 15 other Abang None finalists couples, went through a quarantine period from early June at the West Jakarta Mayor’s Office until Friday, July 26, at the Peninsula Hotel in West Jakarta.
Sabrina stated that participating in an Abang None Jakarta contest has become her dream since 2019. Moreover, this dream was on her bucket list and one of her hopes written in her future email assignment back when she was still in her campus orientation days. “ The Abang & None Jakarta contest is more than just an accomplished dream. For me, Abang None Jakarta has become a part of my personal growth journey and also how young people can play a role in being useful to those around them, especially for their cities,” said Sabrina.
Far from participating in the contest, Sabrina was already a part of an art community called Dreamity Indonesia, a community built by art lovers and UI students from various backgrounds. Sabrina will dedicate herself back to the community and teach art to children interested in art. She believes that Abang None Jakarta is one of the most explorative places to develop positive programs. Sabrina herself is also interested and fell in love with the Abang None Theater.
When the competition was taking place, Sabrina brought out the idea to re-brand the pletok beer, a traditional Betawi drink made from a mix of spices. Sabrina stated, “As a Creative Advertising student, the knowledge I gained can be applied to my idea. The Graphic Design course I took in my second semester allowed me to come up with this re-branding idea and made a prototype I can present when the judging process is in progress.”
The pletok beer packaging Sabrina made has its own meaning and significance. The colors chosen were based on a “menor” (flashy) color palette with each vibrant color representing Jakarta. The handle is in the shape of balang teeth, an icon of Betawi culture. There is also an illustration of the dendrobium orchid and the betta fish, icons of West Jakarta. Last but not least, there is also the coconut flower. The packaging is completed with a tag handle with a barcode that is scannable to make it easier for consumers to learn facts and information related to the pletok beer and its benefits.
Padang Wicaksono, S.E, Ph.D, the Director of the Vocational Education Program of UI, appreciated Sabrina’s achievement, especially the prototype idea she developed for the Abang None Jakarta Barat 2024 judging. According to him, Sabrina’s idea of re-branding a product is a concrete step in applying the knowledge gained from classes to the public. “Sabrina’s innovation is one of the youths’ ways to introduce culture. Through an event such as this, young people will get to know various cultures, including Betawi culture. Once again, I congratulate Sabrina for the achievement she received. She sets an example for other youths to have an impact on the environment and society through the knowledge they possess,” said Padang.
Lastly, Sabrina stated how the Abang None Jakarta is not only a competition for the title of winner, but also a place to grow, learn, and contribute to the continuity of Jakarta. “This is a form of my devotion to my surroundings and the city I was born in. I have great hopes that I can develop my potential and contribute to many sectors, both domestically and internationally,” said Sabrina at the Talent Show held on Saturday, July 13, at Gandaria City, South Jakarta.
