Universitas Indonesia (UI) in collaboration with IDSurvey as the holding company for BUMN Survey Services consisting of PT Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (Persero), PT SUCOFINDO, and PT Surveyor Indonesia held a public lecture titled “Green Skills for the Next Generation: A Pathway to Sustainable Leadership,” on Wednesday, December 11. The event, which was held at Prof. Dr. Ir. Soemantri Brodjonegoro Hall, UI Depok Campus, is a joint commitment to realizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Director of Community Service and Empowerment of UI, Prof. Agung Waluyo, S.Kp., M.Sc., Ph.D., said, “This activity is a valuable opportunity for all of us to explore the concept of green skills which are very relevant amidst the challenges of climate change and the transition to sustainability.”
He further said that the collaboration between UI and IDSurvey is a concrete step in supporting the SDGs. Through this program, both parties also demonstrate the importance of synergy between the academic world and industry in producing future leaders who are oriented toward sustainability.
Meanwhile, the Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs of FMIPA UI Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Budiawan said that UI is ready to collaborate to build the capacity of the younger generation through green skills. “The theme of today’s public lecture is a reflection of our shared commitment to supporting sustainability. We are ready to collaborate to take advantage of the opportunities presented by this initiative, both in the form of joint research, student capacity development, and science-based projects that support sustainability,” said Prof. Budiawan.
He added that FMIPA UI has an important role in supporting sustainability through education and research. FMIPA UI has long focused on the development of applied science and technology, including in the fields of climate change mitigation, bioecology, renewable energy, and studies related to biodiversity. Meanwhile, President Director of PT SUCOFINDO Jobi Triananda, who was also present as a speaker, highlighted the importance of future leaders who care about sustainable issues. “Future leadership must be oriented towards sustainability. Successful leaders are not only those who can bring organizations to achieve business targets, but also those who can ensure that the steps taken benefit the environment and society,” said Jobi. On the same occasion, IDSurvey’s Green Business Coordinator, Annnisa Ayu Soraya, was also present as the second resource person who discussed the importance of green jobs amidst global efforts to address the climate crisis.
This event also featured a UI alumnus who serves as Head of Sales and Resource Operations Support at IDSurvey, Rafly Fajar Adiputra. On this occasion, he shared his experience working at IDSurvey and his role in the company in promoting environmental sustainability.
He explained that sustainability is a cross-disciplinary issue that requires contributions from various scientific fields. Not only students from science and engineering can play a role, but also those from economics, law, social sciences, and the arts. Each field has a unique perspective that can support collective efforts in creating sustainable solutions.
“Therefore, I encourage all students, regardless of their study background, to see sustainability as an opportunity to contribute to a better world,” said Rafly.
This event was attended by more than 200 participants consisting of students, lecturers, and the general public enthusiastically. During the interactive Q&A session, participants showed great interest in being able to contribute to the collective effort to create sustainable solutions.
