The School of Strategic and Global Studies (SKSG) at Universitas Indonesia (UI) sees the important role of women and youth in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. For this reason, SKSG UI held a seminar entitled “Leadership of Women and Youth in Achievement of SDGs by 2030”, on Thursday (19/10), in the IASTH Building Hall, UI Salemba Campus.
On that occasion, the Director of SKSG UI, Athor Subroto, S.E., M.M., M.Sc., Ph.D., said that issues related to women and youth leadership were important to discuss considering that Indonesia was involved in efforts to implement the SDGs points. According to him, Indonesia has many young talents that can be developed to build an inclusive leadership attitude.
“Indonesia has a lot of room for development, both in fostering the spirit of innovation among women and youth at the national and international levels. Indonesia is also heading in a more serious direction, and young people are expected to play a role in realizing the SDGs in 2030,” said Athor Subroto.
At the seminar, two speakers were present who discussed the contribution of women in implementing SDGs points, such as education, health, gender equality, and environmental conservation. The two speakers were Deputy for Planning and Land, Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN), Mia Amalia, S.T., M.Si, Ph.D., and Group Chief Executive Officer at Paragon Universa Utama, Harman Subakat, S.Si.
Mia said that women and youth contributed to realizing the development of the National Capital City (IKN) as an inclusive city. This contribution is made through community empowerment, especially for housewives and teenagers around the IKN construction site. “The community is given training in making solar mums to utilize renewable energy which is the characteristic of IKN,” said Mia.
Apart from that, Mia also saw the importance of a system to support women’s roles in careers. This system is realized in the IKN development process by making values such as performance and accountability as assessment indicators in the world of work. In this way, it is hoped that the existing system at IKN can become a role model to be implemented in other work agencies so that women obtain justice.
Meanwhile, Harman saw that women play a role behind the success of a business, one of which is Paragon Corp, which was founded by Dr. Dra. Hj. Nurhayati Subakat, Apt. He also highlighted the importance of supporting local initiatives and empowering communities in achieving the 2030 SDGs.
“Programs and strategies are needed to increase the role of women and youth in achieving sustainable development goals, especially in realizing industry 4.0. For this reason, we run various programs, such as Women’s Space, a self-development program for Indonesian women; Paradesa Inspirasi, community leadership and entrepreneurship training program.
