Universitas Indonesia (UI) Vocational Education Program Director Padang Wicaksono, S.E., Ph.D, said that Outcome Based Education (OBE) training needs to be conducted for lecturers to develop the curriculum in the UI Vocational environment. According to him, various outputs produced by UI Vocational School are carried out in the form of collaboration between students and lecturers. Padang said this in response to the OBE Curriculum Training for lecturers who are members of the Study Program Curriculum Team, on June 13-14, 2024 at the UI Depok Campus.

He added that the outcomes that have been carried out by UI Vocational students and lecturers include MSME assistance activities in the form of digital marketing by students and lecturers of the Public Relations Study Program, namely VokHumFest. “Then, the development of the Vocation Wellness Center (VWC) Clinic which provides treatment for general patients carried out by students and lecturers of the Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy study programs, and the Tax Clinic which continues to provide services for filling out annual tax returns for personal and corporate taxpayers every year by students and lecturers of the Tax Administration Study Program,” Padang said. The efforts made received a positive response from the community.

The resource persons at the OBE training were UI Director of Education, Prof. Dr. Ir. Anak Agung Putri Ratna, M.Eng.; Head of UI Academic Quality Assurance Agency, Prof. Sri Hartati Dewi Reksodiputro, M.A., Ph.D; Head of Sub Directorate of Academic Record Data, Fernan, M.Si.; and Head of Sub Directorate of Curriculum Development, Dian Kurnia, M.T.. The OBE curriculum is implemented with a focused education system approach. It organizes everything in the education system with respect to various important abilities for students, which can be performed at the end of the student’s learning experience. The character of the OBE curriculum focuses on clear and concise learning outcomes, with complex abilities including knowledge, skills, and attitudes. The learning skills in the OBE curriculum are aligned with the capabilities required by industry 4.5 or 5.0. To assess learning outcomes, the OBE curriculum applies assessment and evaluation.

During the presentation, Prof. Ratna stated that UI has been moving towards the OBE curriculum since 2009. Outputs that have an impact on society are the main points in achieving the curriculum. Prof. Ratna said, “Vocational education that focuses on practice shows that the OBE curriculum needs to be created so that students understand what they learn in college, so that when they go to industry they will provide benefits that can be felt by the community directly.”

In addition, international accreditation is a must for study programs in all faculties, schools, and programs within UI. Prof. Hartati revealed that graduates from UI will compete on an international scale, so it is necessary to measure the value of international standard education provided by UI. “Education abroad also adheres to the OBE curriculum system, so it is important for lecturers to attend training like this to improve their quality as educators, both for teaching and research collaboration with universities abroad,” Prof. Hartati said.

Through the training, Padang hopes that lecturers can evaluate courses in their respective study programs to see the potential and innovations that can be developed to suit industry needs. In addition, the curriculum developed can also be collaborated across study programs and even with overseas partner campuses.

“We continue to improve the quality of our graduates so that they can compete in the global arena. One of them is the participation of UI Vocational students who successfully passed the 2024 Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) selection as many as 92 people for the full funding scheme and 4 people for the co-funding scheme. In addition to the theory received in class, students will also gain new experiences through education abroad to be applied when they enter the industrial world after graduation,” said Padang.
