Strengthening Collaboration with International Institutions, FKUI Receives Several Visits from Delegations and Global Experts

In order to expand collaboration opportunities and enhance cooperation with international institutions, the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Indonesia (FKUI) received visits from a number of global experts and delegations. It was recorded that at least 9 visits were received by FKUI management during August 2023.

On August 7th 2023, the Dean of FKUI Prof. Dr. dr. Ari Fahrial Syam, Sp.PD-KGEH, MMB along with Vice Dean for Education, Research and Student Affairs Prof. Dr. dr. Dwiana Ocviyanti, SpOG(K), M.P.H welcomed the arrival of 11 foreign students who took part in the student exchange program from the Center for Indonesian Medical Students’ Activities or CIMSA FKUI student organizations. The foreign students came from various countries, namely Poland, Spain, Egypt, Tunisia, Romania, the Czech Republic, Belgium, and Bulgaria.

Then on August 10 2023, FKUI was visited by a pathologist from Keio University, Tokyo, Japan, dr. Kathryn Effendi, Ph.D. The Indonesian diaspora came to give a public lecture and share their experiences on Hepatocellular Carcinoma Subclassification group profiles based on pathological perspective in Japan and Indonesia to the teaching staff and Participants of the FKUI Anatomic Pathology Specialist Program (PPDS).

FKUI also received a visit from a delegation from Universite de Guyane, France, on Monday, 14th August 2023. This delegation, in collaboration with the Occupational Medicine Study Program, Department of Community Medicine, FKUI held medical emergency training in the workplace or University Diploma of Initiation in Emergency Medicine by inviting trainers from Service d`Aide Medicale Urgente (SAMU), France.

Then on August 15th 2023, the Dean of FKUI received an audience from a world expert in the field of plastic surgery, namely Prof. Alexandru Nistor, MD from Brussels University Hospital, Belgium. Prof. Alexandru was pleased to share his knowledge and experience with the teaching staff and participants of PPDS Plastic Surgery FKUI about robotic lymphatic surgery. The Plastic Surgery Study Program also held a public lecture by other world experts, namely Prof. Hans Mark, MD , from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, and Prof. Jordan W. Swanson, MD, MSc from the University of Pennsylvania, USA, on August 21st, 2023. The topic of the public lecture given by the two speakers were 1) Lip Adhesion for Cleft Lip Patients, 2) Early maxillary distraction advancement for severe maxillary retrusion in cleft lip/palate, and 3) Forces shaping the future in pediatric craniofacial surgery.

Another global institution accepted by FKUI management is the Deputy Director of the General Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IMC) India, Mrs. Sheetal Kalro on Tuesday, August 15th 2023. With Mrs. Sheetal Kalro, they discussed collaboration opportunities that are beneficial for both parties. One of the opportunities for collaboration being explored is inviting leading doctors from India to become resource persons at scientific events organized by FKUI, and conversely, FKUI teaching staff will have the opportunity to attend as speakers at scientific events in India.

International collaboration is also carried out by the Indonesian Clinical Training and Education Center or ICTEC FKUI-RSCM. On August 21st, 2023 at the CMU 2 Building, RSCM, Jakarta, ICTEC held an activity entitled ICTEC`s Visiting Professor: Coffeehouse Talks on Hand Reconstruction and Updates on Scar by presenting two experts from China, namely Xin Wang (Ningbo Sixth Hospital) and Yi Xin Zhang (Shanghai 9th Hospital, Jia Tong University) and Atsushi Imaizumi, a plastic surgeon from Okinawa Prefectural Chubu Hospital, Japan.

Exploration of opportunities for collaboration was also carried out when the Dean of FKUI Prof. Ari Fahrial Syam received a visit from Prof. Placide Poba Nzaou, an expert in information technology at the University of Quebec, Montreal, Canada, on August 24th 2023. Also accompanying the Dean at the meeting, Head of the IMERI FKUI Medical Technology Cluster Prasandhya Astagiri Yusuf, S.Si, M.T, Ph.D and Dr. dr. Aria Kekalih, M.T.I from FKUI E-Learning. Discussion with Prof. Placide took place with the topic of discussing the development of Artificial Intelligent (AI) research in Indonesia and its use in the medical world.

Furthermore, on August 25th 2023, the Dean of FKUI received an audience from Prof. Dr. Don Eliseo Lucero-Prisno III, Founder of Global Health Focus and Faculty Member at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. The presence of Prof. Don in Indonesia is to be a speaker at the Global Health Emerging Leaders Program at the Universitas Indonesia which will take place on 25-26 August 2023 at FKUI.
