Strengthening Spiritual Character, UI Holds Prophet Muhammad SAW’s Birthday

Universitas Indonesia (UI) as an inclusive, tolerant, superior, and independent university, continues to be committed to building the character of the younger generation with moral and spiritual values. One manifestation of this commitment is the holding of the commemoration of the Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday 1445 H titled “Syafaat Sampai Akhirat” which was held at the Ukhuwah Islamiyah Mosque, UI Depok. This event featured Ustadzah Halimah Alaydrus, a female cleric known for her gentle and wise preaching. Through this activity, UI commemorates the birth of the Prophet Muhammad as a symbol of love and respect for him, the main role model for Muslims.

This commemoration was attended by thousands of students, educators, education personnel, and the surrounding community. The event was opened with the reading of Yasin and Tahlil, followed by salawat and maulid reading accompanied by hadroh Asyiqinnabi. Ustadzah Halimah Alaydrus in her main lecture invited the audience to emulate the morals of the Prophet Muhammad in everyday life. “We gather here to remember the Prophet Muhammad SAW who brought love and mercy to the universe. His intercession is our hope, a helper when no one can help,” said Ustadzah Halimah, while reminding us that his intercession is intended for those who live their lives according to his morals.

UI as an inclusive and tolerant university creates space for students and communities from various religious and cultural backgrounds to deepen their understanding and love for the Prophet Muhammad. In the spirit of tolerance, this religious activity strengthens harmony among students with different backgrounds. UI believes that commemorating the Prophet’s Birthday is an effort to foster moderate character and maintain harmony, while strengthening moral and spiritual integrity. UI also supports the creation of a campus atmosphere that is conducive to the spiritual development of every academic community through activities like this.

In an atmosphere full of wisdom, Ustadzah Halimah recounted the Prophet Muhammad’s concern for all people without distinguishing social status. “Prophet Muhammad SAW gave attention and affection to everyone, including those who are less fortunate. He taught us to do good and maintain harmony with all parties,” he said, giving a message about the importance of tolerance and attention to others. UI views events like this as a momentum to strengthen relationships between members of the campus community, building harmony and peace based on the noble values of religion.

Dean of FISIP UI, Prof. Dr. Semiarto Aji Purwanto, stated that this religious event is UI’s step in developing students’ spiritual awareness. “We hope that students will not only focus on academic education, but also deepen the moral and spiritual aspects that are important for building a better society,” he said.

The commemoration of the Prophet’s Birthday ended with a joint prayer, asking for blessings and safety for all people. This event is also part of UI’s efforts to support the development of character with integrity and strengthen students’ social ties with Islamic values. UI is committed to continuing to support similar events as a real form of an inclusive university that values diversity, strengthens tolerance, and instills spiritual values rooted in the example of the Prophet Muhammad SAW.
