Universitas Indonesia (UI) through Directorate for Innovation and Science Techno Park (DISTP) held a socialization of business incubation funding program at Indonesian Medical Education and Research Institute (IMERI) UI on Thursday (27/07/2022). This activity aims to attract new startup candidates with the Socialization of UI DISTP Business Incubation Program in 2022. In addition to the socialization, this activity is also a place to release guided startups in 2021, and introduce startups 2022. Aimed directly at UI academicians, the funding program carried out by DISTP UI is expected to attract potential startups to develop innovation-based businesses.
The event was opened by UI Vice Rector for Research and Innovation drg. Nurtami, Ph.D., and attended by Director of IMERI FKUI Prof. Dr. Badriul Hegar, Ph.D., Sp.A(K), Deputy Director of IMERI FKUI for Research and Innovation Prof. Dr. dr. Budi Wiweko, Sp.OG(K), MPH, Chairman of UI Alumni Association Andre Rahadian, S.H., LL.M., M.Sc., Venture Capitals, from Alpha JWC Ventures, BRI Ventures, BRI Ventures, Northstar Group, Mandiri Capital Indonesia, UMG Idealab Indonesia, and MDI Ventures. According to Nurtami, DISTP is as one of the directorates that took part in encouraging the birth of startups in Indonesia. Today’s Meetup and Startup Pitching Day activity is one of DISTP UI’s support in bringing startups together with potential investors and potential buyers. This activity is designed as a learning platform for youth, startup enthusiasts, and new entrepreneurs. This annual event is also a networking event between fellow startups, venture capital, invited guests, and the wider community who have an interest in the startup world.
“We hope that in the future, these startups can contribute to the Indonesian economy if the creative economy ecosystem produces entrepreneurs who are resilient and can compete globally,” Nurtami said when opening the event. Universities as the center of excellence (center of science and technology) are the most important part of the n-helix synergy. The role of the Tri Dharma of higher education also requires universities to always carry out education, teaching, research and community service for Indonesia to be an advanced, growing and resilient country.
UI always supports and encourages as well as creates an ecosystem where academicians can conduct research and innovation that can increase competitiveness and economic growth and benefit society. Efforts made by UI in supporting, encouraging and creating a research and innovation ecosystem are through various facilitations including: providing various funding schemes both internal and external; providing facilities and infrastructure including laboratories and co-working places; providing various types of training and certification, and so on.
Dian Widayanti, an alumna of Faculty of Engineering UI who is currently engaged in food startups , opened a business called “Eatever”. Since 2017, she has had great potential and entrepreneurial spirit in developing startups. During her time in Eatever startup, the business run by Dian has superior value to compete with other startups in Indonesia. The superior value that can be felt for customers is the high quality of catering, flexible & easy payment, guarantee of catering to arrive on time, a hassle-free transaction process, and always ready all day.
The Startup Pitching Day event is also a collaboration between UI and venture capital firm Alpha JWC Ventures. This collaboration between the two institutions is a step to accelerate the growth of startups in Indonesia. Since early 2022, Alpha JWC has been working with DISTP UI to guide incubator-assisted startups through regular training, consulting, and seminars. On this occasion, Alpha JWC also distributed grants amounting to 100 million rupiah for the two best startups trained by DITSP UI.
