Ten UI Scientific Fields Enter THE WUR 2024 by Subject

Depok, October 27th 2023. Ten scientific fields at Universitas Indonesia (UI) occupy the top positions in Indonesia according to the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings (WUR) 2024 by Subject – seven of them are ranked 1st in Indonesia. This number has increased from last year, because in 2023 there were only three UI disciplines fields that occupied position 1 in Indonesia.

The seven UI scientific fields that were ranked 1st in Indonesia according to THE WUR 2024 by Subject are Arts and Humanities, Business and Economics, Clinical and Health, Engineering, Law, Life Sciences, and Psychology. Meanwhile, UI is ranked 2nd in the fields of Computer Science and Social Sciences, and is ranked 3rd in Physical Sciences.

At the world level, Law science is ranked 201–250, while Psychology is ranked 301–400. The fields of Business and Economics and Arts and Humanities occupy positions 401–500; Clinical and Health and Social Sciences are ranked 501–600; Engineering, Life Sciences, and Computer Science ranked 601–800; and Physical Sciences are ranked 801–1000.

When compared to before, UI’s ranking has increased in several fields of science. In the field of Business and Economics it rose from 501-600 to 401-500; from 601-800 to 501-600 in Clinical and Health; from 801-1000 to 601-800 in the Life Sciences; and for the field of Physical Sciences, UI’s position also increased from 1001+ to 801-1000. Of all fields of science, UI is the only university in Indonesia that is included in THE WUR 2024 by Subject for Arts and Humanities, Law, and Psychology.

For this achievement, UI Rector, Prof. Ari Kuncoro, S.E., M.A., Ph.D., appreciated the hard work of all UI academics who were able to raise UI’s scientific ranking at the global level. “This is something to be proud of because 10 UI scientific fields are included in the 11 scientific fields assessed by THE WUR 2024 by Subject. These ten scientific fields are also ranked at the top in Indonesia. This is clear evidence that UI continues to strive to improve the quality of education. “Hopefully in the future, this achievement can continue to be improved so that UI’s ranking at the global level will skyrocket,” said Prof. Ari.

“This achievement shows that the quality of UI study programs is relatively even as shown in the results of THE WUR 2024 by Subject. This further validates the world-class performance of the UI study programs, such as the achievement of the 2023 QS Subject Ranking where 13 Narrow subjects occupied the number 1 position in Indonesia,” said Vishnu Juwono, Head of the UI Transformation, Risk Management and Evaluation Monitoring Bureau.

UI’s ranking at THE WUR 2024 by Subject is determined based on an assessment of five main indicators, namely Teaching (29.50%), Research Environment (29%), Research Quality (30%), International Outlook (7.50%), and Industry (4%). These five indicators are applied to eleven fields of science assessed in the ranking. Of the ten fields of science included in THE WUR 2024 by Subject, UI is superior for Business and Economics with an Overall Score of 34.2–37.3; Law with a score of 34.0–38.7; and Psychology with a score of 36.3–41.4.
