Content creator is one of the most sought-after jobs by many people today, from children to adults. In fact, content creator is one of the most sought-after jobs in 2024 based on data from the Ministry of Manpower. Various social media platforms that continue to grow have made many people start to enter the industry. The content created is also diverse, ranging from daily life content, storytelling, culinary, fashion, education, entertainment, and others.
In order to increase knowledge about content creation, the Multimedia Broadcasting Study Program, Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI), held one of the Vocast Talks 2024 seminar series by presenting Jerome Polin, a content creator with more than ten million subscribers on YouTube. Titled “Classroom with Jerome Polin: Cara Jitu Ngonten Mantappu,” the seminar was held at the UI Vocational Auditorium some time ago.
On that occasion, Jerome said that before starting to create content, creators need to think about the goals and values they want to achieve from the content. Various trials and errors are found during the journey of developing a platform for various content, so consistency is the main key.
Therefore, on his journey to get ten million subscribers, Jerome admitted that he was not free from challenges in creating content in it. According to him, content consists of copywriting, editing, graphic design, marketing, team, tools, and collaboration. He said, “When developing a platform, we need to create personal branding first. Some points that need to be considered in personal branding are audience, uniqueness, distinctiveness, consistency, and network and collaboration. Simply put, how do you want to be known?”
He further said that the quality of content is as important as its quantity. Often the impact of negative comments from the audience makes content creators stop creating content. Jerome said that the solution to this is a growth mindset.
“With a growing mindset, we make various negative comments as criticism or input for the content we create. I hope my friends can deal with these comments wisely and not make you discouraged,” said Jerome.
The director of the UI Vocational Education Program, Padang Wicaksono, S.E., Ph.D., said that this seminar provided a lot of new knowledge for participants who want to learn to create creative content or who are developing their platforms. “To answer the challenges of the creative industry that is currently growing, I am sure that Generation Z has fresh ideas that can be used as creative content. Of course by paying attention to applicable norms, and having a positive impact on society,” said Padang.
