The Visit of Three Universities from Denmark to Universitas Indonesia

Universitas Indonesia (UI) warmly welcomed visits from three leading universities and business schools in Denmark, which are Aarhus University, Copenhagen Business School, and University of Southern Denmark. This visit was held in the context of potential collaboration between UI and the three universities from Denmark in improving academic quality and human resources, especially for UI students who wish to continue their studies in Denmark and vice versa. The visit took place in Meeting Room A of the Central Administrative Building of Universitas Indonesia.

The delegation from UI during the visit was represented by the Secretary of Universitas Indonesia (dr. Agustin Kusumayati, M.Sc., Ph.D.), the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UI (Teguh Dartanto, Ph.D), the Head of the International Office UI (drg. Baiduri Widanarko, M.KKK, Ph.D.), the Head of Public Relations and Public Information Disclosure Bureau UI (Dra. Amelita Lusia, M.Sc.), the Head of Maritime Center of Indonesia (Prof. Dr. Ir. Sunaryo, M .Sc. (tbc)), the Head of International Office of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UI (Putu Geniki Lavinia Natih, S.E. M.Phil., D.Phil.), the Head of Sub-Directorate for Academic and Government Cooperation, Directorate of Partnerships (Dr. Eko Sakapurnama, S .Psi., MBA), the Head of Sub-Directorate for Research and Development Planning, Directorate of Research and Development (Andriansjah, Ph.D.), and Coordinator of International Cooperation Facilitation, International Office UI (Suyanti Adi Pawiro).

In addition, there was also a delegation from Aarhus University represented by the Deputy Dean for Education and Engineering (Finn Borchsenius) and International Recruitment Manager (Sarah Gram); a delegation from Copenhagen Business School represented by the Deputy Dean for International Education (Dr. Martin Jes Iversen ), CEO of Siemens Denmark and Visiting Lecturer of Copenhagen Business School (Bjarne Lykke Soerensen), Professor from Copenhagen Business School (Björn Jindra), and Manager of International Program of Copenhagen Business School (Anders Folkmann), as well as a delegation from the University of Southern Denmark represented by Recruitment International (Signe Johanne Lund).

In her welcoming speech, Secretary of UI dr. Agustin conveyed her positive impression of the proposal for cooperation between UI and the three universities from Denmark who visited today. “Thank you for seeing us (UI) as a potential university to work with you (the three delegations from Denmark). We are very excited to hear from you and the possibility of collaborating in the future. We look forward to hearing good news with you, and we are ready to develop future collaborations. Hopefully, these two organizations (UI with three campuses from Denmark) can recover strongly together.” said dr. Agustin.

The representative from Copenhagen Business School, Dr. Martin, expressed his gratitude for UI’s openness in increasing the potential for collaboration between the two institutions.

“Thank you for the invitation. We have a mission to strengthen cooperation between universities from Denmark and Universitas Indonesia. We do not only limit cooperation with Universitas Indonesia students, but also other good opportunities, especially for our students (from Denmark). We hope that the meeting held today can increase the visits of our students to Indonesia, not only (students) to study at the universities but also to learn about Indonesia, from its culture, history, and economy. Here, we are speaking of business, and it is very important for us to strengthen relations with local businesses (in Indonesia). Thank you for this great opportunity today.” said Dr. Martin.

During today’s visit and meeting, each delegation between UI and the three universities from Denmark explained what study programs exist at each university, from diploma to doctoral level. UI has 14 faculties and two postgraduate schools as well as one vocational program school with more than 290 study programs offered. Specifically, the three universities from Denmark, namely Aarhus University, Copenhagen Business School, and University of Southern Denmark, focus on business, communication, and engineering. In the future, students from Denmark can continue their academic activities in Indonesia because the various study programs at UI are still in-line with their study programs in Denmark. Conversely, students from UI can continue their education in Denmark, especially in the three fields previously mentioned (business, communications, and engineering) because the quality of education in Denmark is well qualified. However, it is possible for students who wish to take study programs outside of these three fields.

UI has several special programs for international students who wish to continue their education at UI, which are UI GREAT and UI SHINE scholarship programs. In short, these programs aim to improve academic reputation and introduce UI and Indonesia to the international arena. UI GREAT is intended for foreign students who wish to pursue full-time education at UI. Almost all faculties at UI provide postgraduate education programs that prospective students can choose from. Several faculties that provide postgraduate education programs include the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Humanities, the School of Environmental Sciences, and the School of Strategic and Global Policy.

Meanwhile, UI SHINE is a student exchange program for undergraduate and postgraduate students who are currently studying at universities that cooperate with UI. They can study at UI for one semester. Applicants can choose a study program at the destination faculty with the same field of study at the home university. The requirements that must be met by the UI SHINE program are that applicants are non-Indonesian students from UI partner universities. Other requirements can be accessed via the https://international.ui.ac.id/exchange/ page.

Furthermore, dr. Agustin said that UI does not limit student activities abroad to activities that can help academically and add to their experience, such as internships, student exchanges, and other programs as long as it is good and does not bring bad impacts. “It does not matter if students need more semesters because they are doing activities abroad. Time is not a problem for us. As long as they get good opportunities to study, we will try our best to support learning so that our students can happily take this opportunity.” closed dr. Agustin during the visiting session.
