Towards UI Championship Pickleball 2025: Spirit of Competition, Innovation, and Sportsmanship

Universitas Indonesia (UI) is once again holding a prestigious sporting event called UI Championship Pickleball 2025, which will take place on February 11-16, 2025 at the pickleball courts of the Faculty of Psychology (FPsi), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), and Faculty of Law (FH) UI. This tournament is part of a series of celebrations for UI’s 75th Anniversary, after previously successfully holding the UI Pickleball Community Championship and SA-UI Cup Pickleball 2024.

This tournament will present hundreds of participants from various backgrounds, ranging from students, lecturers, to professional athletes and pickleball communities from various regions in Indonesia. “Through UI Championship Pickleball 2025, we want to encourage a healthy competitive spirit, innovation in game strategies, and introduce pickleball as an inclusive sport that can be enjoyed by all groups,” said UI Vice Rector for Research and Innovation, Prof. Dr. Hamdi Muluk, M.Psi, who is also a pickleball activist at UI.

As part of the preparation for the 2025 UI Championship Pickleball, UI also held a Pickleball Goes to Campus activity, which was held at IPB Vocational School on Saturday, February 8. IPB became the second campus visited after Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). This program aims to expand the pickleball community network and build sportsmanship among students. In addition, this activity also presents a coaching clinic and interactive sessions on pickleball game strategies. As a form of support for the development of this sport, UI handed over a set of pickleball equipment, consisting of a net, paddle, and ball, to IPB Vocational School. “UI, together with the Jakarta State University (UNJ), have become pioneers in the development of pickleball sports in the academic environment. Therefore, we want to further promote this sport to other campuses in Indonesia. Moreover, this sport is flexible because it can be played on existing fields, considering its similarity to table tennis, tennis, and badminton,” explained Prof. Hamdi. UI continues to strive to present competitiveness, innovation, and sportsmanship through superior and impactful academic, research, and sports activities. Pickleball Goes to Campus is real proof that UI is not only superior in academics, but also has an impact in building a healthy and competitive sports ecosystem.

The 2025 UI Championship Pickleball will compete in various categories, including men’s and women’s singles and doubles, with a match system designed to provide the best experience for participants and spectators. Athletes will compete for the championship title and attractive prizes that have been prepared by the committee.

As the implementation gets closer, the 2025 UI Championship Pickleball is getting extraordinary enthusiasm from participants and supporters. With support from various parties, this tournament is expected to become one of the largest pickleball competitions in Indonesia and can inspire more people to be active in sports. Let’s witness the excitement and be a part of the fighting spirit of the athletes in achieving the best achievements!
