Three Universitas Indonesia (UI) students initiated an alternative solution for flexible workplaces for workers with high mobility who need a workplace in a strategic location. TransitCubes was designed by cross-faculty students: Rafie Amandio Fauzan, Computer Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering (FT) UI; Christy Evengelica Duma, Chemistry Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) UI; and Muhammad Zaidan, Economics Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UI.
TransitCubes are private workspaces that offer facilities such as soundproof rooms, ergonomic tables and chairs, internet, air conditioning, and lighting. Intended to be placed in strategic locations at public transportation hubs, TransitCubes are designed to be accessible through an app for booking and paying for the use of its space.
The creation of TransitCubes was motivated by the rapid growth and development in the city of Jakarta. This condition requires workers to also move quickly. In contrast to this, a survey by the Jakarta Transportation Council (DTKJ) shows that 44.2% of workers in Jabodetabek spend 30-60 minutes on the road, 34.6% spend 1-2 hours, 13.2% spend under 30 minutes, and 1.4% spend more than 3 hours.
This phenomenon gave rise to the concept of work from anywhere. By working from anywhere, workers can avoid traffic congestion, improve performance by up to 4.4%, and increase their productivity and focus. TransitCubes is aimed at remote workers, freelancers, and urbanites.
“TransitCubes is a solution to meet the need for flexible workspace, both for workers and students in Jakarta. Due to its strategic placement, namely in public transportation hubs such as stations, customers can optimize their productive time even while traveling,” said Rafie.
The Dean of FT, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU, gave his appreciation, “TransitCubes is an innovative solution to answer the need for flexible workspace amidst the rapid movement in Jakarta. The interdisciplinary collaboration carried out by Rafie and his team shows how important synergy is in addressing social problems around us. Hopefully this innovation can inspire many people and bring positive change.”
