UI and Alibaba Cloud Ready to Increase Cloud Computing Literacy

Universitas Indonesia (UI) and Alibaba Cloud established Skill Center as an effort to strengthen innovation and development of digital technology in Indonesia. The first Skill Center in Indonesia was officially launched on Thursday, December 5, at the Dean’s Building of the Faculty of Engineering (FT) UI. The facility is a symbol of the commitment of both institutions to encourage digital transformation in the world of education and industry.

The Skill Center is located in the Network Laboratory (Netlab), Mochtar Riady Plaza Quantum (MRPQ) Building, Department of Electrical Engineering, FTUI. This facility is equipped with the latest technology to provide a practical learning experience. As a collaboration space, the Skill Center offers opportunities for students and lecturers to develop expertise in the fields of cloud computing and artificial intelligence, as well as bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world applications.

Acting Dean of FTUI, Prof. Ir. Mahmud Sudibandriyo, M.Sc., Ph.D, expressed his appreciation to Alibaba Cloud for its support, which is not only in the form of physical facilities, but also training programs and learning materials. According to him, this collaboration between educational institutions and the industrial sector can have a significant impact on building superior human resources. The Skill Center is expected to be a catalyst to encourage innovation in the campus environment while preparing students to be able to face the challenges of an increasingly competitive world of work in the digital era.

“Through access to expertise and resources from Alibaba Cloud, the Skill Center will not only enhance the curriculum, but also provide opportunities for cutting-edge research, entrepreneurial initiatives, and industry-academia collaboration. The Skill Center positions FTUI as one of the leaders in Indonesia’s technological advancement and contributes to the nation’s digital transformation agenda,” said Prof. Mahmud.

In addition to supporting academic learning, the Skill Center also plays an important role in developing an innovation ecosystem. Through various activities such as workshops, hackathons, and incubator programs, students and startups fostered by UI have access to resources and guidance from industry experts. This gives them a competitive advantage to create technology-based solutions that are relevant to current industry needs.

With the facilities and programs presented, the Skill Center is expected to not only become a center for learning digital technology, but also a center for innovation and collaboration that brings benefits to the university community and the wider community. This collaboration is a real step to support Indonesia’s vision of accelerating digital transformation towards a more inclusive and sustainable future.
