Depok, June 13th 2023. Universitas Indonesia received a visit from a delegation of the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye and the Ankara University to strengthen the diplomatic ties and collaborations that have been carried out by UI and Turkey in the field of education. The visit, which was held on Monday (12/6), at the University Administration Center Building, UI Depok Campus, was warmly welcomed by the University Secretary, dr. Agustin Kusumayati, M.Sc., Ph.D.
Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Indonesia, H.E. Prof. Dr. Talip Küçükcan, said that education is the key to collaboration between the two countries, considering that the relationship between Indonesia and Turkey has been going on for a long time. “Education in this case includes technology and exchange mobility. These two things can strengthen the relationship that was previously established due to the similarity of the backgrounds of the two countries,” said Prof. Talip.
According to dr. Agustin, UI is currently collaborating with several universities in Turkey. Some of them are Karabuk University, Cankiri Karatekin University, Bolu Abant Izzet Baysal University, Cukurova University, Koc University, Turkish Maarif Foundation, Yildiz Technical University, Zonguldak Bulent Ecevit, and Medipol University. He said, “The collaboration that has been carried out is in the form of student mobility and student & staff exchange. With this visit, UI hopes to expand existing cooperation and add new partners from Turkey.”
One of the ways to expand this collaboration is by collaborating with Ankara University. Rector of Ankara University, Prof. Dr. Necdet Ünüvar, said that UI is the target of Ankara University in building cooperation in the academic field and bilateral diplomacy. “Turkey has several research centers related to the Asia Pacific study center. In the future, hopefully a research center related to Turkey-Indonesia relations can be established at UI because UI is the best candidate to establish the research center,” said Prof. Necdet.
Ankara University invited UI to collaborate, especially in the field of medicine or health. Ankara University has the oldest Faculty of Medicine in Turkey, since 1946, which has contributed to medical research, one of which is research on the Covid-19 vaccine. The potential for this health collaboration can be developed with the Faculty of Medicine and UI Hospital, through an exchange/mobility program that students, doctors, and nurses can participate in.
Apart from the health sector, UI students or lecturers who are interested in Turkish can learn it at Yunus Emre Enstitüsü, the Turkish Cultural Center. Research collaboration can be developed with the Faculty of Engineering UI through the Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Energy Systems Engineering Study Programs. Turkish students who graduate from undergraduate programs can also conduct research on Indonesia and the Southeast Asian Region, as well as visiting scholars and visiting research, through a program opened by the School of Strategic and Global Studies.
