UI and BSI Collaborate to Strengthen the Halal Industry Ecosystem

Universitas Indonesia (UI) has become the first university partner chosen by PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk. (BSI) in creating a halal industry ecosystem in Indonesia. The collaboration between the two was marked by the signing of a cooperation agreement carried out by the Head of UI Halal Center, Prof. Muhammad Luthfi Zuhdi, Ph.D., and Group Head–Islamic Ecosystem Solution Group, Muhammad Syukron Habiby, on Wednesday (28/12), in the IWK Meeting Room, Science Park UI Building, Depok Campus.

The UIHC and BSI collaboration is related to the development of the halal industry ecosystem in the fields of education, research, community service, and enhancement of business actors’ capacities. According to Head of Business Development Sub-Directorate, Directorate for Management and Development of Business Units (DPPU) UI, Resi Silaturrahmi, S.E., AK., every business unit at UI is very strategic and has an important role for UI and society because it has three components, which are ideas, impact, and income.

“As representatives of DPPU, we would like to congratulate the collaboration that has existed between UIHC and BSI. We certainly support and encourage the synergy carried out by the Community Service Special Work Unit (UKK PPM), one of which is carried out by UIHC and partners. Hopefully, this collaboration will be beneficial for UI, as well as the nation and state,” said Resi.

Currently, UIHC has been accredited as a Halal Product Process Facilitator (PPH) which has trainers for Halal Assistants, Halal Supervisors, and PPH Facilitators. UIHC has also provided assistance with free halal certificates for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). In the future, UIHC and BSI will work together in organizing research collaborations, scientific activities, scientific studies, seminars and workshops, as well as community service.

The two institutions will also hold halal training and halal literacy to improve and develop the competence of Human Resources (HR) in the halal industry. On that occasion, Prof. Luthfi expressed his appreciation to BSI for accompanying every UIHC agenda. “BSI is always there to accompany us. Wherever UIHC goes, BSI is always there. This cooperation agreement is a sign that UIHC and BSI will continue to push Indonesia together to become the country with the best halal industry in the world through increasing human resources and developing the halal industry ecosystem,” said Prof. Luthfi.

In addition to the implementation of Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka education program, the collaboration between UIHC and BSI also includes capital and business improvement for business actors, as well as the use of BSI services and products. This is done considering the many forms of business that are growing at UI, such as MSMEs and business actors in the faculty canteen. According to Syukron, the presence of the Islamic Ecosystem Solution Division is BSI’s seriousness in creating a halal ecosystem that supports Indonesian halal industry.

“We chose UI to be our first collaboration partner because we believe that UI has all the facilities and qualified human resources and is able to answer the challenges of the times in creating an ecosystem for the halal industry in Indonesia,” said Syukron. The signing of the cooperation agreement was also attended by Deputy Head of UIHC Prof. Ary Yanuar; Head of UIHC Research Dr. Shobichatul Aminah; Head of UIHC Training Division Soraya, M.Hum .; UIHC member, Abdullah Manaf; Dept. Head of Islamic Ecosystem Hikmah Rizka; Senior Manager of Islamic Ecosystem Business Development Soeyatwoko; and PIC of BSI Branch at FMIPA UI Defie Nofieana.
