UI and Coventry University Signed MoU of Cooperation

Universitas Indonesia (UI) received visit from Coventry University, United Kingdom, at Pusat Administrasi Universitas (PAU), Depok. The visit was a follow-up action from the previous discussion that had been done on July 6th 2015. In this meeting, the two universities agreed to sign Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in order to establish a more intensive cooperation.

Delegation of Coventry University were represented by David Pilsbury (Deputy Vice Chancellor International), Jean-Bernard Adrey (Director of Center of Global Engagement), Paul Fairburn (Director of Enterprise and Innovation), Vaugh Shilton (Research Funding Executive), Barbara Howell (Associate Dean, International), Stefan Musiol (Study Abroad Coordinator), Donald Finlay (Associate Dean Law International), Augviera Bong (Country Manager – Indonesia), and Ronny Halim (Progression Officer – Indonesia).

Delegations of Coventry University were welcomed by Head of International Office UI, Prof. Melda Kamil Ariadno, S.H., LL.M., Ph. D. The other UI representatives that were also attended the meeting are Dr. Hamid Chalid, S.H., LL.M. (Vice Rector for Human Resources, Development and Cooperation), Dr. Adi Zakaria Afiff, S.E., M.B.A. (Vice Rector for Finance, Logistic, and Facility), and Dr. Ir. Dodi Sudiana, M.Eng. (Director of Cooperation).

MoU that has been signed by the two universities contain common desire to develop partnership in mobility and research area. In terms of mobility, the two universities have a plan to do student and university staff exchange in order to study academic and cultural matter that is faced by each country. “ Coventry University very committed to do a long- term and continuous international engagement, including Indonesia,” said Leader of Coventry University Delegations, David Pilsbury.

Besides partnership in mobility, UI and Coventry University have another plan to cooperate in terms of joint research. Research topic that arose in the discussion was maritime security, as Indonesia and United Kingdom has similarity as archipelago country. “In the future, UI and Coventry University might collaborate at opening international double-degree program in maritime subject,” suggested Dodi Sudiana. Other subject that became focus on the partnership is engineering. According to Pilsbury, Coventry University has been known as qualified university on engineering subject.

Head of International Office UI, Prof. Melda Kamil Ariadno said that UI intended to make the partnership plan with Coventry University as priority. She hope that the student and university staff exchange can be start running this year. Therefore, after the signing of MoU, UI and Coventry University will discuss more about agreement implementation in order to discuss the partnership action more specifically and technically.
