Depok, May 27th 2023. Universitas Indonesia (UI) is participating in the international exhibition “The 75th NAFSA Annual Conference & Expo” which will be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Washington, DC, on 30th of May–2nd of June 2023. This event is the largest international higher education exhibition and conference attended by hundreds of universities and educational institutions from various countries.
On that occasion, UI will present a variety of innovative programs, products and services that support international standard learning. UI describes four cooperation programs that have been implemented with foreign university partners. The four programs are Research, Mobility Programs for Lecturers, Mobility Programs for Students, and Master’s Degree Scholarships.
Rector of the University of Indonesia, Prof. Ari Kuncoro, S.E., M.A., Ph.D., said that UI’s involvement in the NAFSA 2023 Annual Conference and Expo was part of UI’s efforts to implement higher education transformation policies. “We really encourage UI’s participation in events like this, especially those outside Asia, so that we can see benchmarks in other countries for the progress of education in Indonesia,” he said. He hopes that at this event UI will get positive exposure and engagement that are profitable for UI’s networking .
Meanwhile, Head of UI’s Public Relations Bureau and Public Information Disclosure , Amelita Lusia, who attended the NAFSA 2023 Annual Conference and Expo said that UI’s participation in big events such as NAFSA was a place to build a network as much as possible. “By expanding international cooperation partners, UI has contributed to the success of the Independent Learning Campus program initiated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology,” he said. From this event, Amelita hoped, “Hopefully with this activity, UI’s collaboration at the world level will become wider and stronger, so that the benefits of UI education and research can be felt by the global community,” said Amelita.
She explained that in the Research program, UI is committed to encouraging research and innovation by providing funding in international cooperation schemes to produce impactful research. International research schemes can be initiated by UI or national and international consortia. This collaboration will also strengthen the academic network between UI and international institutions and researchers. Several research funding schemes that have been implemented include PUTI Q1 UI, PUTI Q2 UI, UI Research Cluster, UI Bilateral Strategic Partnership (UI BiSA), Indonesia Research Collaboration, PRIME Health and Social, UKICIS, and INSPIRASI.
The second program provided by UI is Mobility Programs for Lecturers. UI invites partner university academics/lecturers to exchange expertise and carry out collaborative activities, as well as give lectures to UI students. Grants provided for this program include UI RESOLV and Academic Mobility Grant (AMG). UI RESOLV and AMG are programs for international academics/lecturers to carry out online or face-to-face collaboration activities with faculty colleagues for one to two weeks at UI.
In addition to teachers, UI provides opportunities for foreign students to experience learning directly at UI through Mobility Programs for Students. According to Baiduri Widanarko, MKKK, Ph.D., Head of the UI International Affairs Office, who also participated in the NAFSA, “We provide financial support through the UI SHINE program for international students participating in student exchange programs. Foreign students can also take part in the Master’s Degree Scholarship program. This program provides financial support for international students undertaking a 2-year master’s degree. Selected applicants are students who meet the requirements for receiving the UI GREAT scholarship.”
At the NAFSA event, various programs were packaged for participants, which aimed at expanding the collaboration network with partners on a global scale and exploring cooperation. “We also opened a booth at this event, to introduce more closely about UI and be able to interact directly,” said Amelita.
