Universitas Indonesia (UI) is ranked 801–1000 according to the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings (WUR) 2024. UI’s ranking has increased from the previous year, which was ranked in 1001–1200 positions. The ranking increase was released by THE World University Rankings, on Wednesday evening (27/9) at the THE World Academic Summit 2023 which took place in Sydney, Australia.
For this achievement, UI Rector, Prof. Ari Kuncoro, S.E., M.A., Ph.D. who led the UI delegation in attending THE World Academic Summit 2023, appreciated the hard work of all UI academics who have made efforts to continue improving the quality of UI education. He said that the increase in UI’s ranking was the result of close collaboration between UI’s top leaders, UI managers, the UI academic community, and various supporting stakeholders.
“UI’s ranking in THE World University Rankings 2024 has increased, from previously ranking 1001-1200 in 2023 to ranking 801-1000 in 2024. This is clear evidence of the dedication and hard work of all parties involved. Thank you to the high level leaders and administrators of UI, lecturers, students, and our partners who have contributed to achieving this extraordinary achievement,” said Prof. Ari.
At THE World Academic Summit 2023 in Sydney, UI Rector Prof. Ari Kuncoro, was one of the speakers on September 27th 2023 with the theme Case Study: Fostering an Entrepreneurial Approach Through Partnerships.
THE WUR 2024 ranking was attended by 1,904 universities from 108 countries and regions. UI is the only university in Indonesia that is ranked in the 1000th best in the world, out of 33 universities in Indonesia that participated in this ranking. UI is considered superior in 18 performance indicators in 5 fields, namely Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, Industry, and International Outlook.
In the field of Teaching, UI is ranked 198th for five related indicators, namely doctorate bachelor ratio, doctorate staff ratio, teaching reputation, student staff ratio, and institutional income. In the field Research Environment, UI is ranked 681st with research productivity, research reputation, and research income indicators. In the Industry sector, UI is in 773rd position for industry income and patents indicators. As for the International Outlook sector, UI is ranked 576th in four indicators, namely international staff, international co-authorship, international students, and studying abroad.
As stated by the Head of Bureau of Transformation, Risk Management, Evaluation And Monitoring (TREM) UI Vishnu Juwono, the improvement of various THE WUR Indicators is a good momentum for UI to show its performance. “With THE WUR version 3.0, various indicators are more accurate in measuring higher education performance both in the aspects of research and publication, as well as teaching, thus it is one of the factors that makes UI’s ranking increase again. It is hoped that this positive trend will continue in the next few years.”
