Still in the series of activities for the 2023 Community Service and Empowerment Festival (PPM), the service team from the Directorate of Community Service and Empowerment (DPPM) at Universitas Indonesia (UI) held a talk show entitled “Variety of Archipelago Creations” in the Floating Room, UI Depok Campus, on Wednesday (8/11). Dr. Ade Solihat and Dwi Woro Retno Mastuti, M.Hum., who are part of the Community Service team at the Faculty of Humanities (FIB) UI, shared their experience in reviving the existence of Puta Dino Weaving, which is a typical weaving of the Tidore Sultanate which has become extinct.
Dr. Ade Solihat said that they were making three efforts to bring back Tidore Woven Cloth. First, by providing guidance to the local community, especially encouraging Tidore youth (Ngofa Tidore) to enjoy weaving culture again. Second, conducting research, collecting, and analyzing Tidore weaving motifs and elaborating on the historical and philosophical meaning of the weaving motifs, then turning it into a book. Third, making a documentary about Tidore Woven Cloth and broadcast it on YouTube with the title “Revitalization of Central Halmahera Regional Clothing – Identity in the Frame of Indonesian Diversity”. This is done to show the wider community, both domestic and foreign, the validation of regional clothing fabrics as local identities.
Meanwhile, the person in charge of talk shows and seminars at the 2023 PPM UI Festival, Dr. Hendra Kaprisma said that talk shows, seminars, and exhibitions accommodate all scientific fields at UI, starting from the Social Sciences, Humanities, Health, to Science and Technology. The talk shows include “Strengthening the Economy of MSMEs and Bumdes”; “Multidisciplinary Sciences in Resolving Stunting Problems in Baduy”; and “Science-Tech Talk Show: Zero Waste Culture and Waste for Economy”.
“We are bringing together stakeholders, namely government, industry, community, media and UI academics to strengthen community service and empowerment. In the end, the pentahelix collaboration was able to produce breakthrough thinking based on solutions to the nation’s problems. This activity is also expected to provide an overview to villages or government partners or private partners who are interested in being involved in the community service program carried out by UI,” said Dr. Hendra.
In its implementation, the PPM UI 2023 Festival exhibition presents 34 products and social innovations created by UI lecturers, such as Animated Videos on Skin Care for the Elderly, Educational Videos on Acupressure to Increase Appetite in Stunted Toddlers, Nutrition Impact Game Application, Branding of Drip Coffee owned by the people of the Cocol Valley, NTT, Sumba Cultural Heritage e-catalog, Science Microorganism Science Literacy Kit, and so on. The exhibition booth decorations were also made in harmony with the main stage, which has a strong Indonesian feel and takes advantage of Indonesia’s natural wealth.
“We harmonize the presentation at seminars and talk shows with the presentation at exhibitions. For example, during the seminar discussing diversity and maintaining the existence of Indonesian woven fabrics, we also provided a showcase of typical Indonesian fabrics from various regions such as Sumba Weaving, Gungsumi Batik, and Baduy Weaving at the exhibition,” said Dian Sulistyowati, M.Hum, who was one of the a lecturer in Archeology at FIB UI and the person in charge of the 2023 PPM UI Festival Exhibition.
She further added that this activity also provides a Sumba Weaving workshop which is open to the general public. Not only that, there are also general health and dental examinations under the health group initiated by drg. Benso Sulijaya, Sp.Perio(K), Ph.D. As of last Wednesday, registrants for general health and dental and oral examinations had reached 350 participants, dominated by the general public.
