UI Celebrates 79 Years of Indonesian Independence with Red and White Nuances

In order to commemorate the 79th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, Universitas Indonesia (UI) held a unique and colorful celebration involving 24 work units on Friday, August 16, at the University Administration Center Building (PAU). Carrying the theme “Merah-Putih” (Red-White), each unit at PAU celebrated independence in a creative way, namely taking pictures together wearing clothes and attributes, as well as decorating the room with red and white nuances.

All units at UI enthusiastically participated in this activity. They participated by holding a group photo session that displayed togetherness and the spirit of nationalism. With the background of various campus icons, such as the Rectorate Building, the Central Library, and the green area on the Depok campus, the photos reflect pride in Indonesia’s independence.

This photo session also became a creative arena for each unit to show their identity and character. Several units chose to take photos with a modern concept. Not only that, there were also units that appeared like supporters of the Indonesian team accompanied by chants. In addition to the photo session, this series of celebrations was also equipped with other activities, such as the Indonesian Independence Day flag ceremony on August 17, 2024, and competitions in several work units.

Head of Public Relations and Public Information Disclosure Bureau (KIP), Dra. Amelita Lusia, M.Si., said, “A group photo wearing red and white clothes and attributes is not only a symbol of celebration, but also a representation of the unity and spirit that is the soul of the Indonesian nation.” UI as a center of excellence in education, not only focuses on teaching science and increasing academic credibility, but also has a responsibility to maintain and preserve the national values that are the foundation of this country.

Through this activity, UI not only celebrates independence with joy, but also invites the entire community, especially the younger generation, to continue to instill national values in everyday life. In addition, it is hoped that this activity can be an inspiration for other campuses in Indonesia to celebrate independence day in a creative and meaningful way.
