Universitas Indonesia (UI) has once again made a brilliant achievement by winning the title of General Winner at the Pagelaran Mahasiswa Nasional Bidang Teknologi Informasi dan Komunikasi (GEMASTIK) 2024 (National Student Exhibition in Information and Communication Technology 2024). The competition, which took place on September 22-26 at Universitas Negeri Semarang, is a prestigious event for Indonesian students in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). This is the ninth time that UI has succeeded in establishing itself as the general champion in 17 editions of GEMASTIK, after successfully collecting four gold medals, four silver medals, one bronze medal, and two consolation prizes.
“We are very proud of this result which shows that Fasilkom UI students are not only superior in theory, but are also able to compete at the national level,” said Prof. Dr. Ir. Petrus Mursanto, M.Sc., Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science (Fasilkom) UI.
Muhammad Hafizhuddin Hilman, S.Kom., M.Kom., Ph.D., Manager of Student Affairs and Alumni Relations at Fasilkom UI, added that GEMASTIK is the right place for students to channel their creativity and skills. “This victory shall be a motivation for other students to continue to innovate and participate in future competitions,” he said.
In the Programming category, the “sqrt(9)GAG” team consisting of Arvin, Mahartha Gemilang, and Muflih Naufal Maxi won first place, while the “Steven x steven” team won second place. Both teams were mentored by Denny, Ph.D. Meanwhile, the Data Mining category was marked by the victory of the “Three Outliers” team mentored by Dr. Eng. Laksmita Rahadianti.
In addition to achievements in these categories, the UI team also recorded achievements in various other fields, including Software Development, Game Application Development, and ICT Business Development.
One of the team members, Arvin, shared his experience in participating in GEMASTIK amidst a busy schedule. “I had to go to Kazakhstan for the ICPC World Final and only returned D-1 before GEMASTIK. In addition, my teammates also had to manage their time between internships, lectures, and GEMASTIK preparations. However, we managed to overcome all these challenges with good cooperation,” said Arvin, whose team managed to develop a problem-solving program using artificial intelligence (AI) that is efficient in terms of runtime and memory usage.
This achievement further strengthens UI’s commitment to supporting the development of innovation in the field of information technology, with incentives in the form of coaching funds and credits (SKS) for students who actively excel. UI hopes that this achievement can inspire other students to continue to contribute to the advancement of technology in Indonesia.
