According to Prof. Dedi, the renovation of Building D1 carried out by the UI Board of Trustees shows mutual concern for the needs of students. “Students who live in UI Dormitory come from various places in the country and foreign students from abroad. Therefore, UI Dormitory will continue to be developed and made improvements as was done in Building D1. Hopefully, UI Dormitory will achieve best performance, so it deserves to be a benchmark for other universities,” he said.

UI Dormitory has more than 1,225 rooms equipped with various facilities, such as wi-fi network, canteen, musala, minimart, laundry service, and 24-hour security. For Building D1, the renovations include repairing the lobby and main door, replacing 153 bedroom doors and 54 toilet doors, painting all the outer and inner walls of the building, and repairing all floors, walls, decks, ceilings, including service areas and toilets.

Yohanes Jap, who initiated the renovation, said that the renovation of Building D1 was carried out from August 2023 to January 2024. Supervision was carried out by visiting the dormitories every weekend to ensure that the repairs were carried out smoothly and on time. “The renovation was carried out to help realize good facilities for students in the UI Dormitory. Hopefully these facilities can be maintained and maintained so that all students can feel comfortable,” Yohanes said.

The Chairperson of the UI Board of Trustees for the 2019-2024 Period, Dr. (H.C.) Noni Purnomo, B.Eng., M.B.A., said the need to provide facilities to support lectures and student activities, so that they are more concentrated and focused on learning. According to Noni, the facilities provided by the campus greatly affect the reputation of the university.

“Reputation is the most important outcome for universities, including UI. That’s why reputation is an important concern for the 2019-2024 MWA. This is done by paying attention to UI in the eyes of students, including foreign students who are UI ambassadors to the international world,” said Dr. Noni.

After the handover ceremony, the invitees started from the bedrooms, study rooms, and bathrooms. This building is expected to be an example in the development and improvement of the UI Dormitory as a whole.
